PRICE REDUCION ON THE 55M FEADSHIP OLYMPUS
September 2024

PRICE REDUCION ON THE 55M FEADSHIP OLYMPUS

Olympus, one of the most luxurious Feadships ever built (even by Feadship’s exacting standards), is now asking USD 26.5 million; a $2 million price drop. She will be on display at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show form September 25 to 28.

Designed by the doyenne of naval architects, Frits De Voogt, and a youthful Andrew Winch for her interior, Olympus showcases the style and talents of both maestros. Her clean exterior lines reflect Feadship’s shift towards more futuristic design while her opulent and imaginative interior reveals Winch’s creativity and the shipyard’s craftsmanship at their best. In 1997, she won the prestigious International Superyacht Society Awards for the best motor yacht over 43m.
Exceptionally spacious for a 55-meter yacht thanks to her unusually wide beam (10m or nearly 33’), OLYMPUS packs a lot into 881 gross tons.  Her layout is ideal for long term liveaboard. Her airy main and bridge salons with cream-colored furnishings by Silverlining are decorated in soft pastel blues and pinks respectively, giving her an elegant Palm Beach vibe. She accommodates up to 16 guests in 8 staterooms, including two master suites, one on the main deck forward and the other on the bridge deck. An elevator serves all decks, from the lower to the sundeck.

The sundeck has comfortable guest facilities including an observation area forward, whirlpool with sun loungers and a large bar. She carries two large tenders and two Sea-Doos and is helicopter capable - another rare feature for a 55 meter yacht. Her ‘touch and go’ 3,100kg helideck can land an EC 135 or similar in private use.

In 2023, Olympus underwent a seven-figure technical refit as well as upgrades to her interior. She is powered by two Caterpillar 3516 engines and has a 4,000 nm range at 11.5knots, her cruising speed, and a top speed of 17 knots. Cayman flagged, LY2 compliant and classed by Lloyds she is a successful charter yacht although she has been mostly used privately.

NEW CENTRAL AGENCY – MOSAIQUE

Stuart is pleased to announce his appointment as Central Agent for the sale of Mosaique, the 49.60m I 164’ full displacement yacht built by Proteksan Turquoise (now Turquoise Yachts) in 2002.

MOSAIQUE’s beautifully proportioned exterior lines are by Ed Dubois who was also responsible for her naval architecture. Her interior layout and décor were by another yachting icon, the British designer Donald Starkey, the recipient of over 25 awards at international yachting exhibitions. While the interior has been entirely redecorated, it echoes Starkey’s effortless elegance. The well-proportioned areas are decorated in soft neutral tones with a chic “Hamptons Beach” vibe, also thanks to her new hardwood floors throughout.

Originally conceived with an eye to the yacht’s charter potential, MOSAIQUE makes excellent use of her 589 gross tons, which is above the average for a 50m yacht. In splendid condition thanks to multiple cosmetic and technical upgrades and refits, the most recent in 2022, MOSAIQUE accommodates up to 12 guests in 6 staterooms, including a full beam master stateroom and a VIP stateroom on the main deck, as well as four additional staterooms, three doubles and one twin with ensuite bathrooms, on the lower deck. She accommodates up to 12 crew in 6 cabins.

MOSAIQUE has excellent exterior deck space including a large sundeck with a whirlpool and bar forward and sheltered al fresco dining. Another option for al fresco dining is on the upper deck aft. A large swim platform offers good access to the water. She carries a BSC 66 (6.6m I 20’) tender with 200HP Yamaha outboard engine, seating 12, as well as a 4.2m rescue tender and a large fleet of water toys.

MOSAIQUE completed her 20 Year ABS Classification surveys in 2022 when her main Caterpillar 3508 engines were overhauled and her Caterpillar 3306BT generators were rebuilt. A successful charter yacht on both sides of the Atlantic, she has proven herself in long range cruising and has excellent sea keeping characteristics. At 14 knots she has a 4,500 nm range and her top speed is 15 knots. For extra comfort she is equipped with Quantum Zero Speed at anchor stabilizers. Cayman flagged and classed by ABS, she is MCA compliant for commercial use and is of course ISM compliant as well.

MOSAIQUE is asking $13,9million and will be viewable at anchor during the Monaco Yacht Show from September 25 to 28. For more information contact Stuart at +1 954 328 6553 or

NEW CENTRAL LISTING – HALARA
August 2024

NEW CENTRAL LISTING – HALARA

SStuart is pleased to announce his appointment as central agent for the sale of HALARA, the fifth hull of the innovative Oceano 43 series. The Oceano series was Overmarine’s first venture into the full-displacement, steel hullmarket segment, poles apart from their trademark sporty fast open yachts. The series  has proved a huge success. HALARA’s sleek and well-proportioned exterior lines, designed by the talented Alberto Mancini, are accentuated by the streamlined aluminum superstructure, white paintwork and black tinted windows.

Overmarine leveraged their experience in fast, open yachts and incorporated the more desirable lifestyle features in their Oceano line. In terms of space and design, HALARA offers more than many much larger yachts.  She has a huge sundeck with a bar overlooking the bow, al fresco dining and a conversation area sheltered under a teak-lined hard-top roof. The aft deck is furnished with sun loungers.

The foredeck has an attractive bow lounge with comfortable seating, sun beds and an infinity pool. It provides a private relaxation area for guests even when in port. The companionways lead directly to the main deck staircases down to the 45m2 beach club with a fold-down swim platform or transom door and easy access to the sea. When closed the beach club doubles as a gym.

Mancini’s interior, designed in the same elegant sleek style, is equally exciting: both salons have large windows which flood the interior with natural light.  Clever details include the port and starboard doors of the main salon sliding open to create a charming inside-outside area. The seating in both areas is strategically arranged so the area can double as a cinema.

HALARA can sleep 10 guests in five staterooms on the lower deck and there are two Pullman berths in the forward twin cabins for children. The 46m2 owners’ suite on the main deck is full-beam with a fold-down balcony on the portside which opens at the touch of a button.

HALARA is powered by MTU engines and has a 4000nm range at her cruising speed of 11 knots. Her top speed is 13.5 knots. Seaworthy, with an efficient hull and bulbous bow, HALARA has completed five transatlantic crossings under her own steam. Built to LY3 standards, commercially compliant and with underway and zero speed stabilizers, HALARA is also a very successful charter yacht. She carries a 16’ Castoldi tender in the foredeck garage in addition to an array of toys and two wave runners. Very few yachts in the same class offer more. HALARA is asking Euro 20,900,000.

49m (162') CHASSEUR SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of the 49m (162’) CHASSEUR, confirming a slight market uptick at the end of Q1. Stuart acted for the buyer.

CHASSEUR was built in composite by Christensen in 2016. The shipyard is known for its large-scale vacuum infusion construction method, which creates a strength-to-weight ratio seven times stronger than steel or solid laminate. The result is a true deep-water yacht with transoceanic capability with exterior styling also by Christensen. CHASSEUR doesn’t disappoint.

MCA compliant with Commercial US registration and flag, CHASSEUR can conduct global charter operations including in US waters without a cruising permit or pilot requirements. CHASSEUR is also helicopter capable.

With exterior design by Christensen, well built and with a smart layout, in 2022 CHASSEUR’s original dark interior was extensively renovated to a design by renowned American designed Patrick Knowles. Extremely spacious for 499 gross tons, following the refit, CHASSEUR feels like a brand-new yacht.

A successful charter yacht, CHASSEURS’ interiors are sophisticated and inviting with functional inside/outside areas and good deck spaces. Large windows and the light palette further enhance the sense of space. She will continue to charter.

CHASSEUR accommodates up to 13 guests in six well-appointed staterooms, including a full-beam VIP below and a master suite on deck. The opulent bathrooms, clad in different shades of onyx, have heated floors. The elevator serves all decks including the sundeck and zero speed stabilizers ensure guest comfort at anchor. She carries 10 crew.

The sundeck is the perfect environment for relaxed ocean living. Split into three separate areas, the 10-person whirlpool with sun pads either side is forward. Mid-section has a full-service bar with barbecue and cozy U-shaped seating and comfortable seating aft overlooks the ocean. There are al fresco dining options on every deck.

In 2022 CHASSEUR completed her five-year ABS special survey and her tender and toy inventory was renewed. She is powered by Caterpillar 3512 engines giving a top speed of 15 knots. She has a 3500nm range at her cruising speed of 12 knots.
CHASSEUR was asking USD $29,750,000.00.

AWATEA IS BACK ON THE MARKET

AWATEA IS BACK ON THE MARKET

The 45-metre (147’ 6”) AWATEA, custom built by Hakvoort in 2008, is back on the market. Her 5-stateroom layout has a full-beam master, lovely spaces everywhere including a great sky lounge and exterior decks, as well as a tender garage that converts into a proper beach club or gym. With a level of warmth and personality that is rare in a yacht of her size, she is one of the most charming motoryacht on the market today.

The result of an all-Dutch collaboration between Cor de Rover for her exterior, Felix Buytendijk and Diana Yacht Design for her interior and naval architecture respectively, she has a dynamic silhouette enhanced by her custom Peter Blue paintwork offset by her white superstructure.

A proper oceangoing motor yacht with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, AWATEA feels more like a 50m+ yacht than a 45m. Her spacious interior, which includes elements of sailing yacht décor with a New England twist, was refitted in 2023.

AWATEA was built to Lloyds class and is MCA compliant. Although she has only been used privately, she can be operated on a fully professional basis. AWATEA accommodates up to 10 guests and 9 crew. The full beam owners’ suite, accessed via a study, is located forward on the main deck. It feels very airy thanks to large windows and exceptional 2.30m or 7’6” headroom.

The lower deck has four guest cabins, larger than those commonly found on a 45-metre yacht including two double or twin cabins and two VIPs, each with an en-suite bathroom and an extra Pullman bunk. All cabins feature Creston controls to manage the Kaleidescape AV system, lighting, curtains and air-conditioning.

AWATEA is powered by two Caterpillar diesel 3508B engines and has a range of 4,600 nm at 11.3 knots. With proven seaworthiness including trips to Norway and the Pacific, her full displacement hull is capable of comfortable worldwide cruising, also thanks to her VT Naiad zero speed stabilizers.

Beautifully maintained and ready for immediate use, a rare opportunity in the current market, AWATEA is asking USD 21,9M. Contact Stuart at For more information contact Stuart at +1 954 328 6553 or

2024 SHAPING UP FINE: STUART SELLS THE INNOVATIVE AMELS 80

2024 SHAPING UP FINE: STUART SELLS THE INNOVATIVE AMELS 80

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of hull #04 of the Amels 80 Limited Edition series in partnership with his Monaco colleague, Jan Jaap Minnema. The 80m Amels is based on Amels’ innovative semi-custom platform and interior, with customized furniture and decor.

Amels is renowned for its commitment to innovation and top-quality shipbuilding. True to the shipyard’s DNA, the 80m (262’) yacht combines striking exterior lines, an elegant, functional layout and hybrid technology. Similar systems have already been successfully used in the Amels 60m. And like the Amels 60m, the 80m exterior was designed by the creative Espen Øino. The Amels 80 also marks the first collaboration between Amels and another Dutch heavyweight, Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design for interior design.

The Amels 80m makes the most of her 2,175 GT and 12.5m (41’1”) beam: she accommodates up to 14 guests in 7 staterooms if used privately or 12 guests if used commercially. She carries 21 crew. Her interior is outstanding: it has a 517m2 private owner’s deck featuring an airy lounge with floor to ceiling windows  and direct access to the al-fresco dining aft. The forward-facing master suite has 360-degree views, “his and her” bathrooms and dressing areas as well as a private office.

The outside decks are also a masterpiece of versatility: there is a 200m2 sundeck – the largest in class – complete with a bar, lounge area, alfresco dining and a large whirlpool. The beach club, built under the glass-bottomed swimming pool on the main deck, opens on three sides, with two folding sea terraces and the transom door. The wellness spa with gym, hammam and sauna is forward. An elevator connects all decks.

There is also a multi-purpose area on the bow which doubles as a touch-and-go helipad that can support a helicopter up to 4,000 kg, such as an Airbus ACH 135. The garage for the tenders up to 36′ (11m) and other toys is under the foredeck.

The cutting-edge propulsion system allows the Amels 80 to use batteries only while at anchor (with zero emissions) and step-up power as needed to cruise at top speed. The yacht can reach 16.5 knots and at 12 knots, which is her cruising speed, she has a 5,000nm range under conventional propulsion.
One of the most versatile yachts in this size range available today, Amels 8004 will be delivered in 2027.

MIA ELISE II SOLD
December 2023

MIA ELISE II SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of the MIA ELISE II, the 60m (197’) Trinity built in 2012. MIA ELISE II is Stuart’s 5th sale in 2023 which also included  the delivery of the 75m/246’ Infinite Jest in June, for a total sales value of $400 million in 2023.  Interestingly, three of the yachts he sold this year (all Dutch-built) had been extended. The aft extensions enhanced their appeal on the brokerage market by modernizing the exterior lines and upgrading the much sought-after beach club facilities.

Back to MIA ELISE II. One of the largest yachts in the world capable of accessing Bahamian waters thanks to her 2.8m (just over 9’) draft, she is built entirely in aluminum with exterior design by Geoff Van Aller and naval architecture by Trinity. Cayman Islands registered, classed by ABS and MCA compliant and equipped with zero-speed stabilizers for comfort at anchor, MIA ELISE II earned a stellar reputation on the charter market.

Powered by twin 3516 Caterpillar engines, MIA ELISE II has a cruising speed of 11.0 knots and a top speed of 18.0 knots. At 11 knots her cruising range is 3,500 nautical miles. Proven beyond doubt, she has completed at least 15 Atlantic crossings on her own bottom.

At 916 GT, MIA ELISE II has an extraordinarily spacious interior for a 60m yacht, thanks to her split deck arrangement and good beam. Her exterior decks are equally out the ordinary, with the sundeck taking pride of place. Divided into three areas there is a sunbathing and relaxation area aft with al fresco dining for 12 guests. The enclosed gym and spa with a sauna and steam room are midships, while the forward deck features a huge whirlpool on the portside surrounded by sun pads and a wet bar starboard.

MIA ELISE II has a well-sized swim platform and beach club which was remodeled in 2022. She carries two tenders and a large fleet of water toys.
Her modern classic interior by Patrick Knowles is decorated in mahogany and Pacific Northwest madrone with cherry burl inlays. She was fully refit in 2022, and the interior was refurbished in 2020 and 2022. Her living areas on the main and Owner’s decks are spacious with large windows and offer different options for dining and relaxation. Like all Patrick Knowles interiors, MIA ELISE II is at once a “plush place of comfort and a most visually stunning environment”, as crisp now as when she was delivered.

MIA ELISE II accommodates up to 13 guests in seven staterooms. The forward-facing master suite with a charming private deck, a VIP and a single cabin are on the Owner’s deck while the remaining four staterooms, three doubles and a twin, are on the lower deck. The single stateroom on the Owner’s deck currently doubles as a private study.
MIA ELISE II can carry up to 16 crew members in 9 cabins including the captain’s and chief engineer’s cabins on the main deck.

Designed as a “home on the sea” her spacious, chic and comfortable living areas are low maintenance and provide an easy working environment for crew. Lady E ticks all the boxes. NEW CENTRAL LISTING - CALLIOPE
November 2023

NEW CENTRAL LISTING - CALLIOPE

Stuart is pleased to announce his appointment as central agent for the sale of CALLIOPE, the 142’ semi-custom yacht built by Richmond in 2007.

An all-American classic with ocean-going capability and amazing volume, CALLIOPE is a brilliant example of Richmond’s successful strategy focused on semi-custom fiberglass yachts with high-quality interiors and innovative, including thoughtful features not found on competitor vessels.

Space was maximized inside and out - CALLIOPE feels much larger than her 43m /395 gross tons - and her functional layout designed for leisure and entertainment reflects the more informal approach to yachting appreciated by the American market. There is an owner’s open galley and less partitioning than in a European yacht.

CALLIOPE’s all-American build team included the award-winning naval architect, Ward Setzer known for his “go anywhere bluewater ready" yachts.  Her functional interior by Sven Pavlik featuring impeccably book-matched mahogany veneer joinery, can accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 double staterooms, as well as 8 crew members. The master suite with private office, his and her bathrooms and walk-in cedar-lined closet, is on the main deck and two twin and two queen staterooms are on the lower deck. There is a VIP on the bridge deck that doubles as the captains’ cabin when not used by guests.

With al fresco dining on the main and upper decks, one of CALLIOPE’s key attractions is her huge sun deck, built around a central whirlpool. It has a bar and an observation area forward, while the tender storage area aft is used as a sunbathing area when the tenders are in the water.
She carries two RIB tenders, a 16’ Walker Bay RIB tender with a 90HP Yamaha outboard engine and a 10’ AB Lammina RIB with an electric engine. Both tenders were new in 2022.

Built to go anywhere, CALLIOPE has a shallow draft for coastal cruising but is a proven world cruiser and recently completed a three-year circumnavigation of the globe. A bulbous bow was added during the 2022 refit for fuel efficiency. Classed by ABS, although CALLIOPE is now used privately, she has an enviable track-record on the international charter market.
CALLIOPE is US duty paid and asking USD 15,500,000. she can be viewed by appointment.

NEW CENTRAL LISTING – OLYMPUS
September 2023

NEW CENTRAL LISTING – OLYMPUS

Stuart is pleased to announce the central agency listing of the 55 meter / 180’ OLYMPUS custom built by Van Lent in 1996. Olympus was one of the last yachts designed by the legendary naval architect Frits De Voogt who worked on the exterior design and layout with a youthful Andrew Winch. Winch was also responsible for the opulent and imaginative interior.

Her clean exterior design reflected Feadship’s shift towards more futuristic design while her striking interior showcased the shipyard’s craftsmanship at it best. In 1997, Olympus won the prestigious International Superyacht Society Awards for the best motor yacht over 43m.

Pioneering for 1996, OLYMPUS packs a lot into 881 gross tons. Beautifully built, she is exceptionally spacious for a 55 meter yacht accommodating up to 16 guests in 8 staterooms, including two master suites. She carries two large tenders plus two Sea-Doos on the sundeck and is helicopter capable - another rare feature for a 55 me yacht. Her ‘touch and go’ 3,100kg helideck can land an EC 135 or similar in private use.
In 2023, Olympus underwent a seven-figure technical refit at Monaco Marine in La Ciotat as well as interior upgrades to the crew and guest areas.

Olympus’s interior design has withstood the test of time. Her airy main and bridge salons with cream-colored furnishings by Silverlining have been refurbished in soft pastel blue and pink respectively, giving her an elegant Palm Beach vibe. Her staterooms are equally spacious and welcoming. The forward-facing master suite on the main deck includes a study, hair salon, walk-in closet, bathroom and the stateroom (with a Caesar bed) opening onto the observation area. The second suite on the bridge deck can incorporate the bridge deck salon and aft deck.

Cayman flagged, LY2 compliant and classed by Lloyds, Olympus is powered by two Caterpillar engines. At her cruising speed of 11.5knots she has a 4,000 nm range and can reach a top speed of 17 knots. Asking USD 28.5 million, Olympus is one of the most livable, best maintained and fairly priced Feadships on the market today.

HERE COMES THE SUN SOLD
August 2023

HERE COMES THE SUN SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of the 89m HERE COMES THE SUN. “While the market has cooled off compared to 2021 and 2022, it remains buoyant in the large yacht segment where demand for quality yachts still outstrips supply”. HERE COMES THE SUN, listed for sale in March 2023, asking USD 195m, sold in only 5 months.

Launched in 2017, HERE COMES THE SUN is the largest custom-built yacht delivered by Amels. In 2021 she was extended by 6m /19’6”. The work was masterminded by her original naval architect, Azure Yacht Design, and carried out by Amels who expertly streamlined Heywood’s original lines.
What makes here comes the sun such a successful yacht? Under 3000 GT, HERE COMES THE SUN combines top build quality, a splendid exterior design by Tim Heywood with a functional interior layout and inspired décor that is perfectly suited for ocean living. She works brilliantly. The vast deck spaces are broken into conversation areas, so they are people rather than design oriented. The layout flows both for the guests and crew.

On board facilities include a deep aft deck swimming pool, a spa with massage and hairdressing salon, a huge beach club open on three sides with a 60m2 swim platform, a cinema seating 10 people and an inside-outside gym and a whirlpool on the sundeck.
HERE COMES THE SUN sleeps up to 20 guests in 10 staterooms. In addition to the Owner’s 6-room private apartment on the owner’s deck, there are two VIPs and seven double staterooms.

HERE COMES THE SUN is also extremely capable. Built to LY3 and Cayman flagged, she carries three large tenders, a fleet of toys and a large inflatable marina with a pool. The single ‘touch and go’ heli pad on the bow was deemed inadequate for an 89m yacht so a second pad was built on the sun deck aft so helicopter operations could continue even with one aircraft on board. The heli decks can land and carry a Bell 429 or an EC 145.

Equipped with zero-speed stabilizers, she is powered by twin Caterpillar engines that give her speeds up to 17.5 knots. At her cruising speed of 13 knots, she has a 7,000nm range.  Very few yachts under 3000GT are built to such a high standard, a key factor to her short time on the market.

NEW CENTRAL LISTING: the 74.5m (244\') LADY E
May 2023

NEW CENTRAL LISTING: the 74.5m (244') LADY E

The 74.5m (244’) Lady E was designed with great artistic skill and technical capability by Amels’ naval architects and Walter Franchini who, inspired by modernist art, fused many key elements in her exterior and interior design.

Custom built to a very high standard, Lady E incorporates the latest technology to ensure she is quiet, ‘green’, secure, low maintenance, and offers an easy working environment for the crew. She has been refit and maintained to exceptionally high standards, so age has not taken a toll on her condition or design.

Designed around a central staircase with spacious salons and large windows, Lady E can accommodate 13 guests in 6 staterooms including a full-beam Master suite with library and a large on deck VIP. All guest staterooms have ensuite bathrooms with tubs. There is a guest elevator serving the lower to gym deck.

In 2020, Lady E underwent a 6m (20’) extension to modernize the original “home on the water” concept and enhance the experiential side of ocean living. The already expansive exterior deck spaces were increased by 120m2 (1,292sq ft), adding 55m2 (592 sq ft) to the main deck aft and a 65m2 (699 sq ft) beach club on the lower deck. The yacht’s profile was streamlined, accentuating the long horizontal deck lines, punctuated by short vertical mullions. Her audio-visual complement was totally new during the 2020 rebuild and is state of the art.

Lady E offers the full package in terms of wellness and fitness. The enlarged transom door now opens onto a full beam swim platform with actuated swim stairs. The full-beam beach club is special. It’s finished with nightclub-spec audio and light systems and functions as a watersports platform with a large selection of toys on display plus a bar, television and a large relaxation area. There is additional guest seating and sunbathing on the main deck with an uninterrupted panoramic view through the glass panels framing the aft deck.

The bridge deck was remodeled to include a wellbeing area by Exclusive Living next door to the fully enclosed gym and a new Hammam steam room and day head were added to the bridge deck forward.
Cayman flagged and classified as LY3 by Lloyds, Lady E has an impressive track record of global cruising and is one of the most successful charter yachts in her class.

Lady E is currently in the South of France and is asking €71,500,000. For more information contact Stuart at +1 954 328 6553 or

ICON SOLD
April 2023

ICON SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of the 67.5m ICON, built by Icon Yachts in 2010. While demand is normalising back to pre-pandemic levels, well-priced Northen Europen ready-to-use yachts still command interest across the market.

ICON was the first yacht to be based on a pre-engineered platform similar to what is used in commercial building. The shipyard was able to deliver a fully customized Dutch-quality yacht in 2/3 of the time normally required. ICON was the first in a trend that would become standard yacht building practice over the next ten years.

Custom built from the waterline up, Jouke Van Der Baan and Kyp supported ICON’s in-house team of naval architects while the exterior styling was entrusted to Redman Whitely Dixon (now RWD). The contemporary interior design was by Studio Linse, known for the “noble simplicity” of their projects.

In 2015, ICON returned to Icon Yachts for a 5m extension, which increased her volume to 1295GT.  ICON now features an aft deck swimming pool and a beautiful beach club built around a state-of-the-art wellness area with a massage room, gym, sauna, and inside and outside showers. The swim platform is furnished with sun loungers and a bar. Very few yachts of her size have such outstanding facilities.

ICON’s innovative layout ensures that the interior and exterior areas come together to maximize the enjoyment of ocean living. Her well-planned interior balances comfort with functionality. ICON sleeps up to 13 guests. Accommodations include an owners’ private apartment across two decks linked by a private staircase. The area can be shut off for complete privacy. There are a VIP and children’s or nanny’s stateroom on the upper deck and four guest staterooms on the lower deck with direct access to the beach club. ICON accommodates 19 crew members.

ICON is powered by twin MTU 12V4000 engines of 2,480hp each, giving her a maximum speed of 16 knots. At her cruising speed of 13 knots she has a range of 6000nm. She is equipped with Quantum Zero Speed stabilizers engineered for peak performance at 15 knots underway and optimum roll damping while at anchor.

Designed for extensive world cruising, flagged in the Cayman Islands and complying with LY2, ICON has been a very successful charter yacht.
ICON was asking EUR 45 million and is EU VAT paid.

Amel’s flagship 89-metre superyacht Here Comes The Sun has joined the market, with Stuart Larsen of Fraser Yachts and Tim Vickers of Burgess acting as joint Central Agents.

A true modern-day classic on a grand scale and born twice in a decade, Here Comes The Sun was delivered in 2017 as Amels’ flagship and relaunched — even larger — in 2021, following an extensive year-long rebuild. She’s arresting, sophisticated and undoubtedly a “work of art”, as exterior designer Tim Heywood describes her.
The motor yacht for sale was first commissioned by repeat Amels’ clients, to replace their 65.7-metre Ventum Maris (ex. Imagine), the firstborn of the Amels Limited Editions 212 series. For Here Comes The Sun, the same virtuoso design team was deployed — and it shows.

Here Comes The Sun is a truly personal yacht, built around the lifestyle preferences of her current owner and a testament to the spirit of leisure and hospitality. Designed around people rather than an exercise in design for design's sake, her general arrangement is outstanding: the flow just works seamlessly both for guests and crew. She has a calm, radiant character emanating effortless grace – yet her commanding presence also demands great respect.

With Tim Heywood and Winch Design handling her exterior and interior respectively and naval architecture by Amels and Azure, Here Comes The Sun is a true ocean-going superyacht that has the performance to match her appearance. Originals plans were for her to be the pioneering Amels Limited Editions to breach the 80-metre mark but, as work progressed, the project was ‘personalised’ beyond recognition and Amels’ flagship was to remain a one-off. A unique full-custom project.

Here Comes The Sun joined the market in 2019 and was snapped up in less than four months. Her new owner saw her potential, and immediately had plans to upgrade and refine her further.
To preserve pedigree, the yacht for sale returned to Amels in 2020, where the naval architect, Azure Yacht Design, oversaw the rebuild honoring her original character.  Here Comes The Sun was relaunched with an additional 6-metres in length and her volume increased from 2,827 to 2,955 Gross Tons. Her exterior saw two sculptured balconies added on the bridge deck, her steel bulwark dropped by 45 centimeters on main deck, a second helipad installed, and her swim platform extended to a whopping 60 square-meters. She also left with a fresh paint scheme – a Flag Blue hull and Oyster White superstructure with details highlighted in anthracite grey – which is all the more arresting.

More space brought more amenities and post-refit, Here Comes The Sun now boasts a 7 x 4 meter pool — deep enough to dive into — on the main deck, a full-beam beach club, two VIP staterooms on the bridge deck, a gym on the sundeck and many new lounge and conversational areas. Inside and out, Here Comes The Sun is all about the enjoyment of ocean living, with even the decks arranged to make the most of the view whether you are chatting, dining or just working out.
Some of the notable features onboard this Amels yacht for sale include her many lounge areas, a cinema, and a stunning 70 square-meter beach club. It opens on three sides with fold-down platforms port, starboard and aft with the teak deck remaining completely flush throughout. The adjacent wellness area is complete with a sauna, Turkish bath and chilled plunge pool, plus a massage area and hair salon. Finally, the 245 square-meter sun deck is equipped with an inside-outside gym, whirlpool and a huge relaxation area with a bar and al fresco dining.

Her spacious interior is decorated in blues and white with touches of Dolce Gabbana, creating a wonderful Mediterranean vacation vibe.  New elegantly-carved bleached oak paneling replaces the original dark wood paneling.  Natural materials, clean lines and rounded surfaces offset the interior décor. Soft, brushed and polished Perrera limestone imported from Spain, Sahara Gold and Emperador marble are used throughout the yacht, together with brushed bronze fixtures in the bathrooms. Nothing ostentatious; nothing shiny nor hard, just a design that reflects Heywood’s bold statement: “Here Comes The Sun is a work of art”.

The architecture is as sophisticated as the design. Her main staircase, spiraling round the central bronze and glass elevator which goes from the lower deck to the sundeck, is cantilevered, giving the impression that each step is suspended and floating.
The yacht, Here Comes The Sun, for sale, offers accommodation for as many as 20 guests in 10 staterooms and 28 crew. The 6-roomed owners’ apartment on their private deck, opening onto the bow, is a private place on a private deck. Portside is feminine and finished with creams and mother of pearl inlay. It has a bathroom, dressing room and drawing room that opens onto a large balcony.  Starboard side accommodates His study, more masculine in style with leather furnishing and a club-like feel, enjoying the same spectacular balcony and views.
Her remaining accommodation comprises two new VIPs on the bridge deck – both of which benefit from those 12-metre-long sculpted balconies – and seven staterooms on the main deck. The arrangement is ingenious as four staterooms can be turned into two interconnecting suites with a bedroom, lounge and twin bathrooms.

Here Comes The Sun has two helipads, a touch-and-go on the foredeck and a landing pad on the sundeck, allowing her to function as a heliport even when carrying a helicopter onboard. She can land a Bell 429 or EC 145 on either pad.

She also has a full garage with three tenders, including a seven-meter Nautique GS23 Ski Boat, a nine-meter D-RIB Tender capable of speeds of 40 knots, and a 10.5-metre full-custom limousine that can carry 12 guests, both built by Yachtwerft Meyer.

Constructed with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and equipped with twin Caterpillar engines, Here Comes The Sun has a transatlantic range of 5,500 nautical miles at 15 knots. Her top speed is 17.5 knots. She’s Cayman flagged and was built to LY3.
Here Comes The Sun is a superyacht that exudes power and stature. Amels couldn’t have put it better “This is a yacht to enjoy the best of ocean life on a grand and timeless scale. ”

NEW CENTRAL LISTING – HERE COMES THE SUN

Stuart is pleased to announce the central agency listing of the 89m HERE COMES THE SUN built by Amels in 2017.

The flagship of the Amels fleet, HERE COMES THE SUN’s powerful exterior lines were designed by Tim Heywood while the graceful interior was originally by Winch. In 2020 she returned to Amels for a 6m extension masterminded by the naval architects Azure in close collaboration with the owner’s team.

The result is spectacular. The new bold Flag blue and Oyster white paintwork with details in anthracite grey accentuate her sleek lines and curves. Her layout is equally successful. Designed for ocean-living around people rather than design-centric, her well-laid out interior areas and decks flow seamlessly both for guests and crew.

Her exterior deck space has been increased significantly with the addition of a 245sqm sundeck and a 60sqm swim platform. An elevator serves all decks from the sundeck to the lower deck. Other features include two helicopter landing decks, a ‘touch and go’ helipad on the bow and brand new a landing pad on the sundeck. Both can land a Bell 429 or an EC 145.

Her interior has also been refreshed and upgraded. Two large VIP suites have been built on the bridge deck, both with 12m sculpted balconies mirroring similar balconies on the bridge and main deck. Her welcoming main salon and sky lounge, paneled in honey colored oak boiserie, are decorated in blues, cream and white and chic modern furniture.

Her wellness facilities, almost unique for a yacht of her size, include an inside-outside gym on the sundeck, a 7m x 4m pool deep enough to dive on the main deck as well as a spa with a plunge pool, sauna, Hamman, massage and hairdressing area on the lower deck. The adjacent 70 sqm beach club has fold-down platforms on port, starboard and aft.

HERE COMES THE SUN accommodates 20 guests in 10 staterooms plus a staff cabin. She carries 28 crew. The owner’s deck includes a six-roomed private apartment with “his and her” bathrooms and dressing rooms, “his” study and “her” drawing room and a forward-facing master stateroom opening onto the bow with a sheltered private deck.

Built to LY3 and under 3000 GT, HERE COMES THE SUN is powered by two caterpillar engines and, at 13.5 knots, has a 7,100 nm range. Her max speed in 17knots.  She carries three tenders and an array of toys in her full-beam garage.

Built on a grand scale with headroom over 2.20m throughout, HERE COMES THE SUN is a testament to Amels capabilities and the vision of her current owner who transformed her into one of the most exciting yachts of her day.

The legacy of a Legend: Nobiskrug’s 92m superyacht Tatoosh

The legacy of a Legend: Nobiskrug’s 92m superyacht Tatoosh

The turn of the millennium marked a pivotal moment in the history and heritage of superyacht design. It was a period when a swath of groundbreaking models were delivered and precisely in those few years that wrapped the moment we moved into the 21st Century. Nobiskrug’s 92-metre superyacht Tatoosh is one of the giants that stands proud as a definition of change – and has only grown in prestige since her launch. Her delivery was monumental not only for her builder Nobiskrug, which rebranded itself following Tatoosh as a leading superyacht builder, but for superyacht design more generally.

With Tatoosh now back on the market, SuperYacht Times caught up with Stuart Larsen of Fraser Yachts and Matt Emerson of Burgess who are co-representing her. Having sold her to her current owner, Larsen remembered the project well.

Nobiskrug delivered Tatoosh in 2000, during an era where we flirted with dial-up modems and became aware just how impactful the internet would be in shaping the future. A collection of tech entrepreneurs was driving this future and, more aware than most of how technology would enable them to spend time almost anywhere and continue to be productive, were in search of new frontiers. Many of them turned to superyachts which, thanks to IT, enabled them to combine work, adventure and entertainment. The first wave of US tech moguls were not only new clients to the industry but came with a series of ideas, demands and the finance to drive them. It was the dawn of a new era of superyachts.

One such client and his project manager Claus Kusch approached Nobiskrug – the German shipbuilder with a century worth of boat building under its belt – to construct a custom-built superyacht. This was a pivotal moment for Nobiskrug as, until this order, the yard had only built commercial and cruise vessels; Tatoosh was its inaugural entry into the superyacht sector. It was a large vote of confidence from the owner, but Nobiskrug’s vast portfolio was enough for him to entrust them to build one of the world’s largest superyachts.

“A lot was vested in her success,” Stuart Larsen reflected. “Nobiskrug was a skilled commercial shipyard interested in a new market. They started big and built on that experience gaining a reputation for full-custom new constructions and ingenious building methods. But Tatoosh was instrumental to that process.”

“Claus Kusch, Tatoosh’s exterior designer, was also absolutely pivotal to the project,” Larsen continued. “Kusch pioneered some of the most ground-breaking yachts in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. So, when the client decided to build a yacht, he went straight to Kusch. Claus was hugely experienced, a tough negotiator, chain smoker and workaholic, client-centric and absolutely brilliant.”

“Nobiskrug had the skills, expertise and organization but needed an interface, someone who could guide them through transition to the new yachting market. Claus Kusch was an inspired choice – although he also rode the yard very hard. He excelled at managing the armies of skilled subcontractors, which are part and parcel of all yacht construction, yard and he knew yachting. Nobiskrug got the best of both worlds.” Kusch was a naval architect and project manager by trade but brought a unique approach to his craft. What raised Kusch above a number of his contemporaries, Larsen and Emerson agreed, is that he “would design a yacht from the initial concept, including naval architecture and styling, and then go on to manage the project to the end of the warranty period. Kusch yachts were 100 percent custom made.”

Tatoosh, of course, is testament to this. But then so also is the classic 48-metreLady Georgina (ex Katalina) by Amels, which he oversaw the project management of in the early 1980s. The 75-metre superyacht Meserret III (ex Leander G) by Peene-Werft GmbH, delivered in 1992, was another Kusch-designed predecessor of Tatoosh. Notably this was a similar story to Tatoosh, as Peene-Werft GmbH was a commercial shipyard that worked with Kusch on its first superyacht project. However, unlike Nobiskrug, Leander G was the yard’s first and last new-build superyacht project before it was acquired by Lürssen in 2013.
During the year 2000 another of Kusch’s designs hit the water, the 112-metre superyacht Le Grand Blue, which had proved instrumental to the construction of Tatoosh. Kusch didn’t just pen the naval architecture of Le Grand Blue though, as her exterior designer, Stefano Pastrovich explained, “The control of the entire construction and management was done not by a shipyard but by one man, Claus Kusch”. LGB didn’t look like a yacht on the outside but she’s 100 percent yacht inside.

Following Tatoosh, Nobiskrug has delivered a further 11 superyachts, including the famed 80-metre superyacht Artefact, and the world’s largest sailing yacht, Sailing Yacht A. The yard currently has two projects in-build, the 70-metre Miza which will be delivered imminently, and the highly anticipated 77-metre  Black Shark, which is slated to hit the water next year. But this whole dynasty is based on the Tatoosh bedrock, which grew from the US tech boom and the conversations that spurred on the construction of this 92-metre superyacht.

“Nobiskrug has embedded much of Claus Kusch’s approach in their DNA,” Emerson explained. “The yard is still ‘known for pushing the boundaries and for not being a mass builder, able to embody the unique vision of the owner combined with innovative ideas and advanced technology’. Tatoosh set new boundaries and Nobiskrug became a serious new player in the yachting industry almost overnight.”

Larsen continued, “This fruitful partnership was not coincidental. The owner who built Tatoosh was very well acquainted with Le Grand Bleu and certainly influenced by her capability and range if not her rougher exterior. When he decided to build, he approached Claus Kusch who was responsible for the naval architecture, exterior design and project management of the new build, including the yard’s selection process.” Kusch worked in collaboration with Studio Yacht, the Rotterdam-based studio, on the exterior design of Tatoosh – the duo worked in unison during later years on the design of the 110-metresuperyacht I Dynasty and the 133-metre  Al Murqab. As was in vogue during the period, Tatoosh was penned with long flowing lines which are punctuated by small windows that run the length of her superstructure and which tighten forward at the helm and pilot station.

“Unlike more recent platform yachts, where the exterior design is often driven by fashion trends, the design of Tatoosh’s exterior (and layout) was driven by function,” Larsen said. “Kusch’s ability lay in blending function and aesthetics to create efficient yet captivating exterior lines. The turn-of-the-century industry and billionaires were tech-driven, the first generation to appreciate the scope of cellular phones and the internet, which gave them an appreciation for capability and purpose over fashion for fashion’s sake. As a result, Totoosh’s exterior has not dated, she has simply become a classic.”

Spanning five decks and boasting 3,229 GT of interior volume, Tatoosh was the largest superyacht, by volume, to be destined for waters outside of the Middle East. A superyacht of such grand statute needs an interior that carries her grace, and the highly acclaimed UK-based Terence Disdale Design studio was enlisted for the job. Tatoosh can accommodate up to 19 guests in 11 guest suites, each brimming with that Disdale charm, while her owner is graced with an ingenious twin-level private apartment that occupies the forward section of the yacht across two decks. The owner is offered the same level of privacy as if the suite spanned a full, single deck; however, by offering a split-levelled space, guests don’t feel overlooked as they can still access all decks, without encroaching on the owner’s privacy or feeling that large sections of the yacht are off limits.

The apartment itself is striking and split into daytime and nighttime areas. The former includes a gym, a private study and a large forward-facing observation lounge designed for family use. While the latter, situated on the main deck, is home to a massage room, two VIP or children’s staterooms and the master suite itself. The suite is full-beam with large windows. The central sleeping area has a small salon starboard and a study portside. Access to the large bathroom can be found through his and her dressing rooms.

“Disdale was at the top of his game and the master of the GA at the turn of the century. Trained by Bannenberg, his ‘beach-house not pent-house’ approach was perfect for 21st century yachting. Disdale focused on ensuring yachts were not only beautiful and elegant but livable and efficient,” Matt Emerson said.

Tatoosh was built for ocean-going cruising and long-distance voyages, and Disdale fed this essence into her design-DNA, ensuring that there’s entertainment for all those onboard. To name but a few, Tatoosh has large swimming pool that doubles-down as a dancefloor when not in use, an impressive screening room decorated in rich, red velvet, a wellness suite that’s spread across a number of decks, an arsenal of tenders (all of which are original) and not one, but two helipads, one of which has a dedicated helicopter spares store, a helicopter refueling station and an approved fire station – allowing the yacht to be used like a small heliport.

It’s not only guests who’ll be aboard for those long voyages though, but also her 31 crew. Disdale ensured that their quarters are also generous and a pleasure to be in. “The standard of finish and materials used is high and all crew areas are in mint condition belaying the yacht’s age,” Emerson added. “Crew quarters were not an afterthought to be squeezed in before the days of stringent classification requirements. And in terms of longevity, Tatoosh current crew complement is a testament to her design.”

While Disdale was busy with bringing the comforts for long-range exploration, Nobiskrug had the challenge of actualizing the demand – and the shipyard went above and beyond. When launched, Tatoosh was one of the quietest yachts afloat and she’s since cruised in waters all around the world (name a place and Tatoosh has been there!). Thanks to twin DEUTZ-MWM diesel engines with Visco Masse rubber mounts, she boasts an impressive 7,000 nautical mile range when cruising at speeds of 12.5 knots.
“The choice of Deutz engines was driven by their proven design which ensures high reliability, long engine life and extra-long TBO’s. Maintenance work is required only after many operating hours and can be done quickly without extended downtime. Low fuel consumption makes for low operating costs and low exhaust emissions make for a cleaner environment,” Emerson explained.

Tatoosh has been meticulously maintained and systematically upgraded and refitted over the years, her most recent appointment was an extensive 12-month refit with Kusch Yachts in Germany, completed April last year. Some of the highlights of the works include a 20-year Lloyds Class Survey, a full repaint of both the hull and superstructure, a plethora of mechanical services and the refurbishment of the crew areas. Tatoosh also had a new Audio-Visual system installed and her tenders were serviced and repainted.

“Today, after 20 years of exploration yachts getting more and more hype and exposure, we forget how extraordinary Tatoosh was when she was delivered in 2000,” Larsen concludes. “She not only set a new benchmark for construction, but also opened yachtsmen’s eyes to the boundless possibilities of global exploration prompting them to rethink how they wanted to use and build their yachts. She marks the beginning of contemporary expeditionary yachting, and her influence is still felt 20 years later.”

Tatoosh is on the market, listed with Stuart Larsen of Fraser Yachts and Matt Emerson of Burgess acting as co-central agents. She’ll be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show 2022.

NEW CENTRAL AGENCY: FOUR JACKS

Stuart is pleased to announce the Central Agency for the sale of 45m I 150’ FOUR JACKS. Described as “a breath of fresh air in a sea of sameness” when she was launched, Four Jacks still stands out today. Nuvolari Lenard outdid themselves and were certainly ahead of the curve when they designed the semi-custom 150 Sports Yacht for Palmer Johnson in 2008. In addition to her spectacular flowing lines, the open deck concept without a transom revolutionized the yachting experience, literally bringing the sea into the living areas.  Port and starboard balconies on the main deck, a master stateroom on the main deck and an open sky lounge make Four Jacks the perfect summer cruising yacht.

The 45m (150’) Four Jacks was built for speed. Her efficient, deep V hull integrated into the aerodynamic superstructure are in aluminum to ensure performance. SCOUT II SOLD
May 2022

SCOUT II SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of the 40m I 130’ SCOUT II built by the British shipyard Brooke Yachts in 1993. Stuart acted for the seller. SCOUT II is his fourth sale in 2022 and brings his total LOA of yacht’s sold this year to over 200m or 656’.

While the war in Ukraine and consequential sanctions on Russian owners has shaken up the market with fewer large yachts now available for sale or charter, Stuart says demand from the US market has remained upbeat and inventory is still low.

Scout II is one of the first purpose-built exploration yachts. Built to a tough specification and only used privately, her interior, exterior and equipment underwent multi-million-dollar upgrades over the past four years. She was extended by 5m aft and 1m forward. A new mast was installed and the bow was reshaped. All key machinery and systems were either replaced or remanufactured including new zero speed stabilizers, generators and air conditioning. Some interior fabrics and furnishing were replaced with an eye to maintaining the original Disdale style and blue and white color-scheme.

SCOUT II feels larger than her 397 GT.  Thanks to her 9.2m (almost 30’) beam, she has huge outside deck spaces and large interior volume. Her well-laid out interior offers a high degree of privacy with crew and guest areas cleverly separated. There are two Owner’s staterooms on the lower deck, the ideal location for reduced motion, both with showers and tubs. Overall, SCOUT can accommodate nine guests in four ensuite staterooms and can carry up to 9 crew members.

Remarkably stable and seaworthy, SCOUT II has cruised extensively around the globe. Powered by two 507 HP Caterpillar engines, she has a max speed of 11knots and at 9knots her range is 4.200 nm. Scout II was asking USD 9.900,000.

NEW CENTRAL AGENCY: CARINTHIA VII
February 2022

NEW CENTRAL AGENCY: CARINTHIA VII

Stuart is pleased to announce the Central listing of the 97m /363’ Carinthia VII built by Lürssen in 2002 and continually maintained by Lurssen Logistics.
Carinthia VII, originally Project Fabergé, features both exterior design and interior layout by Tim Heywood. The naval architecture was developed by Lürssen while her interior was designed by Ellerhorst and Kreuter. She is classified by Germanischer Lloyd’s AG (now DNV) and is Maltese flagged.

Built in steel with an aluminum superstructure, the six-deck Carinthia VII adds up to an impressive 3,643 gross tons. Her clean and uncluttered lines and powerful profile are a masterpiece of elegant understatement. Viewed from a distance, the main deck appears to have no windows but they are in fact concealed by darkened glass with black frames which are only visible close up. The deep blue color of the hull, which became known as ‘Carinthia Blue’, helps create this effect.

Rupert Mann of Rainsford Mann Design summed it up perfectly: “What makes the design of Carinthia VII so successful is the pure and elegant sheer line that draws the eye from the bow to stern so effortlessly. The clever trick of dropping the sheer line one deck down aft, gives her a dynamic and purposeful bow shape forward”.

Equally remarkable is her performance package: powered by four 10,060hp MTU diesel engines she cruises at 22 knots and has a top speed of 26 knots and a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 18 knots.
Carinthia VII was designed as a family yacht and has only been used privately by her original owner. Equipped with a ‘touch and go’ helipad, and a full spa and wellness area opening onto the water, Carinthia VII also has exceptional  deck spaces surrounded by glass bulwarks that not only protect from the wind but offer magnificent views over the water.

Carinthia VII can accommodate up to 14 guests in eight luxurious staterooms.  She has a separate owner’s deck with a private drawing room, VIP stateroom and a beauty parlor as well as six staterooms on the main deck and carries 40 crew on two deck levels.

Carinthia VII is in immaculate condition having completed her 20-year surveys in March 2022.  Contact Stuart at +1 954 328 6553 or

Thanks to her shallow draft, efficient hull shape and twin C32 Acert Caterpillar engines, tintin reaches an impressive top speed of 23.5 knots and cruises at 21 knots.

tintin has a crisp, retro-minimalist interior custom designed by the in-house Westport Design team with detailed input from very knowledgeable owners. The wide 23’9” (7.2m) beam dramatically increases the living spaces in the guest and outside deck areas. The décor and layout are enhanced by the natural light from large windows along the superstructure and hull. The white palette with splashes of color includes new surfaces and materials successfully melding interior and exterior areas. At 207 GT she is larger than most yachts of similar length.

The open galley, a Westport hallmark, with comfortable seating at the bar or on the settee. Large windows either side with a sky light above help create an informal environment. Overall, tintin’s layout for onboard operations and crew service is very well designed.
tintin has great exterior deck spaces, including a huge area on the sundeck aft of the raised pilothouse with hot tub and relaxation area. ‘Al fresco’ dining is on the main deck aft which also has a bar for informal eating or drinks.

tintin accommodates up to 8 guests in 4 staterooms including the full beam Master and VIP Staterooms on the lower deck and two guest staterooms (one currently equipped as a gym). All have en suite bathrooms.  tintin can carry 5 crew including the captain in crew accommodations in 3 cabins.

Beautifully maintained and immediately available., tintin is one of the best equipped and spacious yachts in her class on the market today. Asking US$17,500,000, tintin can be viewed by appointment in South Florida. For more information, contact Stuart at

HAS THE BROKERAGE MARKET PEAKED?
January 2022

HAS THE BROKERAGE MARKET PEAKED?

Stuart Larsen of Fraser Yachts has had a record year by anyones standards, with some of the most expensive superyacht sales having his name sealing the deal. SYT's Francesca Webster caught up with Stuart to find out a little more about his predictions for 2022, his life as a yacht broker and his recipe for success

How did you enter the world of yacht brokerage, can you give a bit of an overview of your career?
I fell into yachting by chance, like most of my peers. After graduating from law school in New Zealand, I took a year off to travel. I had a scholarship to Harvard University but I wanted to see a bit more of the world before getting serious about what I thought would be a legal career.  The era of cheap travel hadn’t arrived yet and Kiwis didn’t travel as much as they can now but, regardless, off I went.

After spending a brutally cold Christmas in New York, I travelled to Florida in search of the sun, something more like Christmas at home. Funds were running low and having done a lot of competitive sailing in New Zealand, I easily got work and accommodation on a boat in Fort Lauderdale.

Of course, with my Kiwi accent I met many people in the yachting business and made friends with a well-established yacht broker who had just started his own company. He decided he wanted to take me under his wing and offered me a sales position in his company. I didn’t know anything about brokerage, let alone that it could be a viable business, but I wanted to find out more. It certainly seemed more exciting than more law books. It was – and I  have never looked back.

I joined Fraser Yachts in 1980 and have been with the company for my entire career, through five different ownerships. My parents, of course, were horrified. I do not think my father forgave me until I sold the new build project for Octopus almost twenty years later! He still wanted me to be a lawyer…………..

How do you see the industry has changed during your years as a broker?
Apart from the obvious - the size, length and number of yachts and cruising grounds have increased significantly – the more interesting changes are less evident.

It was the early days of the internet and I was lucky to count among my many clients a number of first-generation IT and tech entrepreneurs whose innovations literally changed the way we live. They were curious, creative, technically minded and fascinated by the natural world. Communications and IT meant that they were no longer tied to their desks. Now it was possible to travel and explore while still keeping tabs on business. The yachts they bought and built reflected their spirit of innovation and technical boldness. For example, Octopus with her integrated dock, dual helicopter landing pads and submarine, the tender capability of Tatoosh – Senses, Skat and many others, all come to mind. At the time, barring ships for warfare and rockets for space, yachts were the most sophisticated and complex craft man could devise.

The industry as a whole is just catching up now: helicopters, large tenders, spas and beach clubs, even submarines on the larger yachts, are more commonplace. But there is a key difference. The design used to be driven by the function, today most yachts are designer yachts, where design for design’s sake overshadows the functionality. There are a few recent, glorious exceptions - Artefact springs to mind, a rare combination of a visionary project, managed by a talented captain supported by a creative, design team and a yard willing and able to innovate technically.

The past twenty years has also seen the rise of production and semi-production yachts. They are more standardised since they need to appeal to a larger market segment. They take less time to build and the yard can manage the projects more efficiently – there are fewer problems to solve, less issues to go wrong. While the demand for custom yachts continues, only a handful of yards have the know-how or interest to build anything custom, bigger than 80 metres. But now we see the market maturing with yards focused on guiding demand and creating, rather than following, trends.

What are the biggest challenges brokers face in such a competitive market?
I don’t think the key challenges have changed over the years. Numbers have increased so there is more inventory to get to grips with. New yards have sprung up globally so it’s more difficult to track every new project. The internet has helped manage the overload and tools like the MLS systems have become invaluable but they are no substitutes for hard earned knowledge and experience. There are too many brokers who think it’s an easy and glamorous business. Everyone is ready to talk the talk but much fewer are willing to walk the walk. There are only a handful of companies that can offer clients proper advice, service and guidance and I am astounded at the lack of knowledge some brokers have when dealing with yachts over $20 million. I sometimes ask myself if I was a buyer or a seller, would I entrust my $20 million business to that person………….

But, essentially the role of a broker hasn’t changed over the years. The challenge is doing it right. We all talk about so-so having sold this or that yacht. A broker doesn’t sell a yacht; his (or her) job is to make the sale happen. This is achieved by smoothing out all the snags, hitches (and ruffled feathers and egos) that are part and parcel of every sale. Personalities are large, the stakes are larger and all parties want to be the winner. The aim is to enable the parties to reach an agreement that all can live with. This means having a clear idea of the outcome you need to reach and managing each step of the process. It is time consuming, requires a lot of thought, idea tossing, fine tuning and creativity. It’s a long-haul journey. Interestingly, while we have a lot more tools, they don’t necessarily make the job of a dealmaker easier. Like building a yacht - you can’t compress the process, it requires time, attention, a good blueprint, a shared road map and a thorough understanding of the yacht sale process in order to arrive at a closing.

You have had an exceptional year, with some major sales. What do you think are the secrets to success in the big boat market?
I am still surprised when I look at the numbers. I sold 14 yachts in 2021 which translates into more than three quarters of a billion dollars and over 800 metres (2,624’) in length. In terms of gross tonnage, the total volume of yachts I have sold is equivalent to the gross tonnage of forty-five 50 metre yachts!
More importantly, I have acted for young, first-time buyers as well as for clients I first dealt with 30 years ago. It has also been a great privilege to be asked to represent yachts Iike Skat and Octopus which I originally sold as new build projects, in addition to the other 12 sales this year.

The secret? Well, experience and business acumen are essential. Working with a well-respected company with an international presence is also important since our clientele is global. Marketing plays an increasingly central role, all the more so during the pandemic when buyers were not always able to visit a yacht in person.  Really it still all boils down to knowing your business, saying it how it is and building up trust.

What do you think 2022 holds for the yachting industry?
The 2021 boom was unexpected. I think most companies were bracing for a downturn, even as bad as the GFC. The onset of the pandemic was so fast there was no time to think things through and certainly no historical map to guide us.

Then, all of a sudden business picked up rather than falling off a cliff like we anticipated. It was an eye opener until we realised that yachting provided an escape from the constraints of social distancing and lockdowns. Coupled with a booming stock market and the availability of cheap money, the yachting market simply exploded. However, the sheer size of the surge in demand was astonishing, both in brokerage and new construction. I don’t think 2022 can be such an extraordinary year.

Good brokerage inventory is short, shipyards are full and, in many cases, over-extended. Some are not even contemplating discussions, let alone commitments with clients for new builds until their backlogs subside. A repeat of 2021 in sales is not feasible but, overall, the yachting market will remain upbeat as the inventory works its way through the various stages of ownership.  Interest in yachting will almost certainly remain high since the impact of the pandemic is going to be with us for a long time. Barring, of course, an increase in the cost of money or a significant slow-down of economic recovery impacting asset markets, yacht sales and prices should hold steady or firm up some more.

To date, the surge in numbers and asking prices should provide a springboard for new investment in greener, more sustainable solutions. Younger owners are more attuned to environmental issues and likely more willing to pay a premium for effective solutions, but green has a long way to go to become mainstream.

On the downside, there has been a lot of over-promising from many builders. We need to be ready for some disappointing and late deliveries from some yards, driven by not only Covid slowdowns but ongoing supply chain issues and some shipyards’ inabilities to scale-up fast enough and reorganise workforces to the new levels that are now needed.

SKAT SOLD
November 2021

SKAT SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of SKAT, his 13th sale in 2021. Stuart acted for the buyer and the seller.
In my view SKAT was one of the most exciting yachts on the market this year. – said Stuart – “She was extraordinarily well built, impeccably maintained, and her layout and design are innovative and elegant. Her enduring appeal was confirmed by the extraordinary interest shown by buyers during the Monaco Yacht Show”.

What makes SKAT so unique is the seamless continuity between her exterior and interior in terms of design, layout and décor. Functionality sets the tone since living in comfort at sea, in hot and cold climates, was a key priority. The exterior is essentially a succession of flat surfaces, the only curve is the striking sweep of the bow. The grey paintwork highlights SKAT’s uncompromising lines.

The interior is as essential as the exterior. Built for comfort rather than show, the elegant, minimalistic interior by Marco Zanini looks as modern today as when SKAT was built. There are no superfluous lines or decoration. The construction brief called for as much natural light as possible. The glass conservatory on the bridge deck allows natural light to come in from above and below so one really has the feeling of living on the water. In order to optimize space, and cater for work and play, the layout is designed to be flexible: the dining room doubles as a meeting room, the main salon as a cinema, even the elevator can be used as a dumb waiter, with custom shelving popping out for dinner plates, when guests are seated for dinner.
In terms of performance, SKAT sets equally high standards.  She is one of the quietest yachts afloat. The floating floors are fixed on shock mounts to eliminate all vibration and, while cruising at 14.3 knots, 45dbA was recorded in the salons and 34dbA in the Owner’s stateroom. Two big, stainless steel-encapsulated exhaust systems reduce exhaust noise to barely audible levels.

SKAT is heli capable and can land and carry an EC135 or Agusta 109 in private use. The equipment to refuel and maintain the helicopter is located in the raised helipad which can be made ready for landing or departures in minutes.
Three years into the project, her naval architect, Espen Øino summed up the entire build team’s feelings by saying “SKAT is a yacht like no other”. This continues to be true almost 20 years later.
SKAT was asking Euro 49.5m.

NEW CENTRAL LISTING – AWATEA
October 2021

NEW CENTRAL LISTING – AWATEA

The 45-metre (147’ 6”) AWATEA is an oceangoing motor yacht with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure. AWATEA was custom built by Royal Hakvoort in 2008.  Diana Yacht Design was responsible for the naval architecture and her exterior was designed by Cor de Rover. The interior layout and original interior design were by Felix Buytendijk.

In 2019 AWATEA underwent a major refit, including hull paintwork, custom tenders, engine room overhaul and an AV and IT refit. The interior was redecorated by the talented owner/designer Peter Tatham who lightened the palette and refreshed all the soft fabrics providing an elegant “New England” twist to the original nautical style.

Although AWATEA has only been used privately, she can be operated on a full professional basis. Built to Lloyds and MCA, she was the first Dutch motor yacht to be constructed for charter under the new guidelines for Commercial Cruising Vessels (CCV). AWATEA was nominated for the 2009 World Superyachts Award.

AWATEA has a dynamic silhouette characterized by a sweeping line that extends from the stern to the top of her superstructure. Her sundeck with whirlpool and bar and indeed
all exterior deck areas are spacious and functional. The exterior finish is classic nautical with teak caprails and veneered recesses around windows. She has a level of warmth and personality that is rare on yachts of her size.

AWATEA feels more like a 50m+ yacht than a 45m. Her spacious interior which feels much larger than her 499 gross tons includes elements of sailing yacht décor. Warm mahogany panels, beautifully beveled raised panel joinery and white surfaces are combined to great effect.

AWATEA accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms and up to 12 using pullman berths, as well as 9 crew. The full beam owners’ suite, accessed via a study, is located forward on the main deck. It feels very airy thanks to large windows and exceptional headroom of 2.30m or 7’6”.

The lower deck has four guest cabins, larger than those commonly found on a 45-metre boat including two double or twin cabins and two VIPs, each with an en-suite bathroom and an extra Pullman bunk. All cabins feature Creston controls to manage the Kaleidescape AV system, lighting, curtains and air-conditioning.

AWATEA is powered by two Caterpillar diesel 3508B engines and has a range of 4,600 nm at 11.3 knots. With proven seaworthiness including trips to Norway, her full displacement hull is capable of comfortable worldwide cruising, also thanks to her VT Naiad zero speed stabilizers.

Beautifully maintained and ready for immediate use, a rare opportunity in the current market, AWATEA is asking Euro 19.5m and can be viewed by appointment in the Rybovich Free Trade Zone in West Palm Beach, Florida. Contact Stuart at +1 954 328 6553 or

FIVE YACHTS IN MONACO YACHTS SHOW
September 2021

FIVE YACHTS IN MONACO YACHTS SHOW

Stuart is pleased to confirm that five of his central listings will be on display at the MYS. Tatoosh, C2 and Skat will be in slips in Port Hercules while Planet Nine and Mia Elise II will be at anchor.

Collectively adding up to over 10,000 gross tons, each of the yachts has a distinctive track record and individual features that set it apart, in terms of design, performance, track record and build quality and capabilities.

The 92m TATOOSH was built by Nobiskrug with exterior styling and naval architecture and interior by two industry legends, Claus Kusch and Terry Disdale. Tatoosh spans six decks and - one of her most distinguishing features - carries an extraordinary range of tenders, two of which are over 13m. She is heli-capable with an on-board refueling system. Commercially registered and MCA complaint, she has an amazing track record of global cruising.

C2 was designed as a family yacht, a home on the water. Built by another renowned German shipyard, Abeking and Rasmussen in 2019, her hull was extended by 7m to incorporate a new 3rd generation beach club and swimming pool on the main deck aft. If anything, the refit carried out by the original builder, has further streamlined her sleek exterior lines.  Spacious at 2,150 GT, she can accommodate up to 31 guests in 15 staterooms. C2 is commercially registered and MCA compliant.

Instantly recognizable, the 71m SKAT is one of Espen Øino’s most iconic designs. Visually dramatic, the exterior is constructed by harmoniously balanced geometric shapes and clean lines which deliberately reflect the materials used for the construction - steel, aluminum and glass. The only curved line is her flared bow. Her distinctive grey color highlights the angular hull design.  The minimalist interior designed by Marco Zanini to match the exterior and maximize the use of space, has ultra-clean lines. SKAT was - and remains - well ahead of her time.

PLANET NINE is a true expedition superyacht. Built in 2018 to explore in extreme conditions , her imposing profile by Tim Heywood is reminiscent of a military vessel. In 2019, PLANET NINE completed a five-month cruise to Antarctica and the Pacific coast of South America, redefining luxury exploration cruising. On her return, Stuart remarked that “Planet Nine is one of the very few yachts that has been designed for summer and colder winter long-range cruising. She is ahead of the curve”.  Built to Lloyd’s Register Ice Class 1D and equipped with dynamic positioning and zero speed stabilizers for comfort at anchor, PLANET NINE has a commercially approved helideck, with an enclosed, below-deck hangar accessed by a lifting platform for an eight-ton helicopter, and an onboard refueling facility. The hangar allows Planet Nine to handle two aircraft at the same time.

MIA ELISE II
The 60m American designed and built superyacht, Mia Elise II is known as one of the best charter yachts in her class. And there is a reason: she is the perfect yacht for an active owner and guests. Her layout is excellent with huge outside decks and spacious interior volume thanks to her generous 9.75m (32’) beam. Add a beach club with good access to the water, a gym and spa and a completely private owner’s deck (with VIPs for children) and an elevator serving all guest decks, and you see why MIA ELISE II is so popular. Her 916 GT essentially allows the same volume as you would find in two 50m yachts! Seaworthy and performing, MIA ELISE II has completed 12 Atlantic crossings since 2016.

All yachts can be seen by appointment. Contact Stuart at +1 954 328 6553 or

NEW CENTRAL AGENCY: C2
September 2021

NEW CENTRAL AGENCY: C2

Stuart is pleased to announce his central listing of C2, the 85m (280’) displacement yacht built by the renowned German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen in 2009. Abeking & Rasmussen was also responsible for her naval architecture while the graceful exterior lines are by Reymond Langton Design.
Mark Berryman created the comfortable, flowing interior spaces with clean lines, neutral colors and lots of natural light. Well-maintained by her long-standing crew and a sizeable budget, C2 stands out in a thinning marketplace for her top German pedigree, build quality and engineering.

C2 was designed as a family yacht, a home on the water. Although she is commercially compliant, she has only been used privately by her original owner since delivery. Spacious at 2,150 GT, she is split over 6 decks and accommodates up to 31 guests in 15 staterooms. Her functional layout and large volume ensure some staterooms can be easily repurposed for living, well-being, entertaining or business.
The main deck aft doubles as an outside cinema. A glass elevator serves 5 decks from the sundeck to the lower deck and there is a massage parlor on the sundeck and formal and informal dining areas, inside or out on most decks.

Fully refit at her mother’s shipyard in 2019, renovation works included a 7m (26’) extension of the hull with the inclusion of a glass-bottomed swimming pool flush with the transom, a large swim platform and a new full-beam beach club open on three sides providing easy access to the water and excellent cross ventilation.
The main salon was resized to include an extra two cabins. The refit included a number of technical upgrades and new installations including Quantum XT zero speed fins and new paintwork. In addition to increasing living spaces on board, the extension also modernized her sleek exterior lines and profile.

The asking price is Eur 90,000,000. C2 is not available for sale to US residents while in US waters. She is on display at the Monaco Yacht Show and can be seen by appointment. For more information contact Stuart at +1 954 328 6553 or

A pedigreed displacement yacht, she attracted a buyer in record time. 2021 has seen an exceptional number of brokerage sales and Stuart’s performance mirrors the trend with eight yachts sold for an impressive total of 15,500GT.

Built in steel with an aluminum superstructure by Feadship’s Van Lent shipyard, BLUE MOON is classed by Lloyds and is MCA compliant. De Voogt was responsible for the naval architecture while the exterior styling and interior design were by Donald Starkey and Lee Perot.
Formal where she ought to be, casual where she needs to be, and always elegant and inviting” BLUE MOON’s wood-paneled interior is offset by lighter fabrics with an oriental touch.

Launched in 2005, BLUE MOON has only had one owner since her launch and has been meticulously maintained. She was refitted in 2014, and upgraded and repainted in 2019.
A successful charter yacht, BLUE MOON has a number of characteristic features including two gyms and an observation lounge on the bridge deck with floor-to-ceiling windows and a retractable sunroof. A glass elevator serves all decks and can accommodate a small wheelchair. She accommodates 12 guests in six suites. The master stateroom on the main deck has an office and a private gym. Five guest staterooms are located on the lower deck which also has a second gym for guests. The configuration is flexible so four of these five staterooms can be combined to create two large VIP suites, each with his-and-hers en-suite bathrooms and sitting rooms.

BLUE MOON has ample deck space including a large sundeck with whirlpool and a BBQ and a swim platform with easy access to the water. She carries a 25’ Chris Craft tender with Volvo Penta engine and a Nautica 15’ RIB emergency tender with 2012 Yamaha outboard as well as a number of other toys including wave runners in an aft garage. BLUE MOON operates with a crew of up to 16. The asking price was € 43,900,000.

U.S. CUSTOMS DUTY NOW PAID ON SCOUT II
July 2021

U.S. CUSTOMS DUTY NOW PAID ON SCOUT II

When SCOUT II came back to the market in January, she was the most interesting exploration yacht under 500GT. If possible, she has become even more interesting following the payment of the US Customs duty. Now available for inspection by US residents in US waters, SCOUT II can be viewed by appointment in Maine.

Built by Brooke Yachts in 1993, SCOUT II underwent a multi-million-dollar refit in 2018 and the interior décor was refreshed in 2021. The 2018 refit was managed by Van Aller Yacht and Naval Design and entailed extending SCOUT II’s aft by 5m and forward by 1m, redesigning her bow and installing a new mast; she was also fully repainted. The bow redesign gives SCOUT II a modern look and the increased flare and height makes her dryer forward. In addition, key and machinery (zero speed stabilizers, generators and air conditioning) was replaced, added or remanufactured.

The exterior and interior of SCOUT II were originally designed by Terry Disdale.  Disdale is renowned for creating refreshingly casual yet chic designs which balance contemporary elegance with relaxed comfort, coupled with an intelligent approach to the use of space. In 2021, the main deck salon and aft were refurbished with new soft goods, furniture and fabrics. The upper deck furniture and fabrics were also refreshed. The renovation was beautifully executed in true ‘beach house not penthouse’ Disdale style.

One of SCOUT II’s most interesting features is her 30ft beam, 4ft wider than is standard for a yacht of her size.  The additional width provides greater stability under way and at anchor and the deck space is increased dramatically, as is the interior volume.
A very seaworthy and capable yacht, SCOUT II has transatlantic range and a proven track record of global cruising.  She accommodates 9 guests in four staterooms (including two masters) and carries nine crew although she can be managed with less.

SCOUT II is asking USD 9,900.000. For more information contact Stuart at +1 954 328 6553 or

SIGNIFICANT PRICE REDUCTION ON SKAT

SIGNIFICANT PRICE REDUCTION ON SKAT

Stuart is pleased to announce a major price reduction for the 71m I 233’ SKAT. Formerly asking €56,500,000, the helicopter capable, long range motoryacht designed by Øeino and built by Lurssen is now competitively priced at €49,500,000. SKAT is en route to Toulon, ETA in La-Seyne-sur- mer, Toulon, France, today, June 25.

With her distinctive profile shaped by a succession of flat intersecting surfaces highlighted by the distinctive gray color – the only curved line is the flare of the bow -, SKAT has turned heads since she was launched. Her striking exterior lines are complemented by the timeless, minimalist interior by Marco Zanini.

One of SKAT most interesting design features is the bridge deck glass conservatory which allows natural light to come in from above and below and magnificent views over the ocean. SKAT has six double staterooms plus a child’s cabin which can also be used as an owner’s office. She has an elevator which serves all decks (including crew decks for ease of operations), a gym on the upper deck and a beach club with safe access to the sea.

SKAT was built to maximize comfort at sea and efficiency and is extremely quiet. To reduce noise and vibration, the engines, gensets, compressors and water makers are double-resilient mounted on a massive steel “raft” floating on 28 flexible mounts. The two exhaust systems in the upper engine room are encapsulated in stainless steel. In addition, floors and ceilings throughout the yacht are soft-mounted to eliminate propagation of noise or vibration through the hull and superstructure.

SKAT carries two 8.5m tenders in her aft garage and has an additional garage for extra toys.

SIRONA III SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of SIRONA III, the 56.4 m I 185′1″ full steel and GRP yacht built by the Australian yard Oceanfast. One of the last yachts designed by the legendary Jon Bannenberg, Sirona III is as contemporary today as when she was launched in 2004.

Bannenberg’s collaboration with Oceanfast lasted a number of years and SIRONA III is arguably the best yacht Oceanfast ever built: her fit and finish inside and out are exceptional. Combined with the engineering and architectural prowess of Oceanfast, SIRONA III is a testament to style, safety, reliability, and craftsmanship. Austal, Australia's global shipbuilder, was responsible for the naval architecture.

SIRONA III’s modern art deco inspired interior created by OceanFast’s in-house design team led by Craig Beale. The exterior lines were redesigned by the UK-based Reymond Langton.

Lloyd's classed, LY3 and Cayman MCA compliant, FELIX has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure and adds up to 1,622 GT. She is powered by two 3512 B Caterpillar engines and reaches a maximum speed of 14kn. At 12.5kn she has an 8,400 nm range.

SKAT AND SCOUT II AT RYBOVICH
March 2021

SKAT AND SCOUT II AT RYBOVICH

Stuart is pleased to announce that SKAT and SCOUT II will be berthed at Rybovich’s West Palm Beach Marina and available for inspection for the duration of the Palm Beach International Boat Show from the 25 to the 28 March.

Both yachts are exceptional in their class and stand out for the quality of design and build, level of maintenance and cruising track record.

The 40m I 130’ foot SCOUT II is a purpose-built ocean-going exploration yacht delivered by the British shipyard Brooks Marine in 1993. Robust and known for her excellent seakeeping, she has transatlantic range (4000nm) and a proven track record of global cruising. SCOUT II is powered by 3408-B Caterpillar engines and at 397 Gross Tons, she is unrivalled in her class in terms of volume, performance, deck space and versatility.

Between 2016 and 2018, SCOUT II underwent a multi-million-dollar upgrade and refit including a 5m extension aft and a 1m extension forward. The bow was reshaped and a new mast installed. Key machinery and systems were replaced or remanufactured, including zero speed stabilizers, new generators and air conditioning. She also boasts a sleek new paint job. All work was approved by Lloyds.

Her classic light interior was designed by Terry Disdale. SCOUT II can sleep 9 guests in four staterooms on the lower deck and carries 9 crew. Asking $9,900,000 SCOUT II represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a serious and well proven explorer yacht. View at
http://stuartlarsen.com/en/yacht-detail/02-yacht-for-sale/321-scout-ii.cfm

The 71m SKAT was launched in 2002 and cemented Lürssen’s reputation as a top builder of large yachts. Stark and imposing with beautifully clean lines, when she was launched SKAT broke with yacht design conventions. She remains as cutting edge today as when she was built.

The minimalist interior with ultra-clean lines was designed by Marco Zanini to match the exterior and maximize the use of space. Zanini worked with few materials and colors but achieved an elegant richness. The construction brief called for as much light as possible which is the reason for the glass conservatory on the bridge deck which allows natural light to come in from above and below, also affording magnificent views.

SKAT was built for comfort and performance. To ensure quiet operations, even by the strictest standards, machinery is mounted on double-resilient mounts while floors and ceilings throughout are soft-mounted. Skat can accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 staterooms plus 2 more in a child’s cabin and carries up to 20 crew. She has only been used privately.
Offered for sale by her original owner, SKAT is asking Euro 56.500.000. View at http://stuartlarsen.com/en/yacht-detail/02-yacht-for-sale/370-skat.cfm .

STUART'S SALES IN 2020

Sales
Sales of brokerage yachts and new construction remained strong in 2020 due to increased demand driven by three main factors: low interest rates, a buoyant stock market and the desire to acquire a safe and controlled environment during the pandemic. Representing either the buyer or the seller, Stuart has sold more than 40 yachts since 2015, averaging over 6 sales each year.

Central listings
Stuart represents ten central listings with an aggregate value of almost $1 billion.  His listings include three exploration yachts; the 126m Octopus, the 73m Planet Nine and the 40m Scout II, as well as two yachts which have made modern yachting history: the 92m Tatoosh and the 71m Skat. OLIVIA SOLD
February 2021

OLIVIA SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of OLIVIA, the 69m Explorer yacht, originally built as a hydrographic survey vessel.

Custom built for the Russian navy at the height of the Cold War by the Finnish shipyard Oy Laivateollisuus, OLIVIA had to be able “to go out and stay out, no matter what the conditions”. She has fully lived up to the brief. OLIVIA’s capabilities are second to none in terms of seaworthiness and construction. Built to ice class, her controllable pitch propeller is very deep in the water to avoid hitting ice blocks so she leaves almost no wake. She cruises at 12 knots and reaches a top speed of 15.0 kn. Her range is extraordinary – up to 15,000 nautical miles – and her ice class means no area of the world is off-limits.

OLIVIA was fully refit, first at Rouvia Road Yacht Design & Construction in the Philippines and in then in Malta in 2011 to bring her up to yacht standards. The refits included replacing all damaged steel and the installation of new equipment - pumps, generators (three 300kW Cummins) and air conditioning systems – and adding retractable Rolls-Royce fin stabilizers. The original 2,000hp Deutz engine was entirely rebuilt. The hull was faired and painted.

The Italian design company Droulers Architecture remodeled the interior which now includes a cinema and an office on the main deck as well as the saloon and dining room.  The interior is finished in solid rosewood paneling and decorated in neutral colors with minimalist furnishings. The emphasis is on modern, practical comfort but the result is also very stylish while preserving the feel of the yacht. OLIVIA sleeps 10 guests in five staterooms including the owner’s suite and accommodates up to 26 crew.

OLIVIA has a relatively low gross tonnage (1,259GT) owing to her open decks. All recreation spaces are aft of the superstructure and split over three decks. The teak sundeck was reconfigured for lounging and sunbathing. A large spa pool and canopies for shade were added during the refit as well as an articulated swim platform that swings from the retractable gangway. OLIVIA carries a number of large (11m) tenders and will be reconfigured to carry even more toys!

OLIVIA, Stuart’s second sale of 2021, is EU VAT paid and was asking EUR 17,500,000.

SEA FOREVER SOLD
February 2021

SEA FOREVER SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce his sale of the 28m I 93’ Sea Forever.  It is Stuart’s first sale of 2021 and he represented both Buyer and Seller.
SEA FOREVER was built in 2007 by the Vancouver-based ABD Aluminum Yachts, one of the most highly regarded aluminum yacht builders in North America.
She was specifically designed to cruise in remote locations where the need for room, range, storage and efficiency is paramount. She has more usable volume than any other 93' yacht, thanks to her 7.2m beam. Built to survive 20-foot waves without shipping water, her imposing bow improves fuel efficiency and reduces pitching. Powered by two 500-hp fuel efficient Lugger engines and with a 5,600nm range at 8.5 knots, her cruising record is hard to match.
Sea Forever spent the last 18 months cruising the South Pacific with stops in Perlas Islands, Panama; Galapagos; Marquesas, Society Islands and Tuamotus in French Polynesia. She is economical and efficient to operate and has been rigorously maintained.

Designed by Ed Fry, SEA FOREVER has a minimalist interior with unstained maple woods and light fabrics, designed by David Boudreau. She accommodates 8 guests in three staterooms on the main deck and 2 more in the Master suite on the bridge deck featuring large windows with beautiful 180° views, an office area and a protected private deck.

SEA FOREVER carries two good size tenders and has an extended beach club with a large lazarette equipped to store lots of scuba gear.
SEA FOREVER was asking $6,500,00.

Launched in 2007 by the De Vries Feadship yard, ANNA I is, if not the best, one of the top pedigreed yachts of this size on the market today.
With naval architecture by De Voogt spanning four decks, her exterior and interior design are by Michael Leach. Recognized as one of the most innovative superyacht design studios around, MLD is known for their well-thought-out general arrangement plans that work properly for guests and crew alike. ANNA 1’s impressive architecture, engineering design and finish won her an award in the Best Displacement Motor Yacht from 1300GT to 2999GT at the World Superyacht Awards.

The well-balanced distribution of open deck spaces includes sunbathing areas, alfresco dining areas and a helipad aft (for an EC 135) to complement the elegant, interior accommodations with 7 spacious staterooms for up to 17 guests. Anna 1’s interior is finished in satin polished burr elm, flame mahogany and decorated with museum-quality handmade furniture in rare woods by Silverlining Furniture.

ANNA 1 has a number of unique design features like the port-side dining room with sliding doors to the side deck where a folding terrace drops down to improve the sea views. The bridge deck saloon doubles as a cinema, with a drop-down screen and projector and there is an enclosed gym on the sun deck.
The master suite has double the normal volume, created by doing away with the roof above the bedroom area and opening it up to double height. Natural light comes into the cabin from windows on two levels. The suite includes a large walk-in dressing room, an Owner's office/library, and a generous bathroom. Stairs lead up to a private panoramic lounge with doors leading to the foredeck and a private owner’s area.
The main saloon can be set up as a disco. The furniture moves to the sides and the Dutch elm parquet dance floor comes alive with the sound and light system from four custom-made Silverlining disco units.

Anna is powered by twin Caterpillar main engines and has a 5,100nm range at 13 knots and maximum speed of 16.7 knots. She is equipped with Quantum zero-speed stabilizers and accommodates 18 crew.

At Eur 53,900,000, ANNA 1 is well priced and seriously for sale. She is currently undergoing an extensive refit including a complete paint job and will be ready for viewings in the Mediterranean in April.

NEW CENTRAL AGENCY: TATOOSH
January 2021

NEW CENTRAL AGENCY: TATOOSH

Stuart is delighted to announce his appointment as Central Agent for the sale of Tatoosh, the groundbreaking 92m (303’) yacht, built in Germany by Nobiskrug. Including Tatoosh, Stuart currently represents 710m (2,329’) of yachts, collectively worth over US$1billion.

The most exciting yachts tend to be built by owners with a clear idea of what they want to do. Such projects also pave the way for new lifestyle features. In 2000, Nobiskrug made its mark on the International superyacht scene with the launch of TATOOSH which, at the time, was one of the world’s largest superyachts. Highly innovative, Tatoosh was commissioned by a forward-thinking owner who signed up yachting legend Klaus Kusch for the exterior design, naval architecture and project management. The interior design was entrusted to another legend, Terry Disdale, known for his refreshingly casual yet exquisitely chic interiors. Both designers were at the height of their careers and willing to push boundaries in the burgeoning world of superyachts.

Tatoosh was built to a scale which has become accepted today but was highly innovative at the time. Built with top-quality materials, state-of-the-art technology and exceptional craftsmanship, she spans six decks and (one of her most distinguishing features) carries an extraordinary range of tenders and toys. She can carry two helicopters; a 43’ Frers designed sailboat and a 43’ Hinckley picnic boat are stowed port and starboard, and three other guest tenders and an array of smaller watercraft round out her toy list. Her beach club marina with doors opening port and starboard is equipped with dive facilities, and a sauna and a hot tub with views aft over the ocean.

MCA compliant, Tatoosh has been a successful charter yacht although she has rarely been chartered. At 3,229 GT, she accommodates up to 19 guests in 11 staterooms plus.  Unusually, the owner’s area extends over two decks with the owners private “apartment like” living area forward on the boat deck and sleeping accommodations below on the main deck, ideally arranged for a family. On-board facilities include a cinema, a family room for games or home schooling, a gym and spa facilities and a large swimming pool on the main deck aft.

Tatoosh is asking Eur 90 million and will emerge from an extensive refit in Northern Germany in early 2021. Please note Tatoosh is not offered for sale to US residents while in US waters.

PRICE REDUCTION ON GEORGIA
January 2021

PRICE REDUCTION ON GEORGIA

Now asking $ 7,950,000 the 49m I 159' Georgia was the world’s largest sloop at the time of her launch in 2000. With her 59m carbon mast and striking burgundy-red hull, she established herself as the trailblazer for a new generation of sailing yachts.

Built by Alloy in New Zealand with naval architecture by Sudio Scanu and Butch Design, and exterior styling and interior design by Glade Johnson Design, Georgia was conceived as the ultimate family world cruiser.
Design priorities included a requirement for four generous guest cabins, a gym PLUS a full width master suite and a large hot tub. In a yacht of this size, ease of sailing with a minimal crew was an absolute necessity, as well as safety for all on board.  GEORGIA exceeded everyone's most enthusiastic expectations. Proven beyond doubt, since 2009 she has covered almost 115,000nm, circumnavigated the globe and won the 2018 St Barth’s Bucket.

The very strict rules for Lloyd's and the then-to-be-adopted MCA rules and regulations were embraced to achieve the highest structural and safety standards and GEORGIA has been maintained to the same standard ever since.
Georgia has a low profile with unusually large windows which allow guests to look down onto the water. The sailing equipment is hidden below deck, a very unusual feature on a sailing yacht. There is ample sailing gear storage in below deck 50-gallon storage drums. Her centreboard draft allows access to shoal cruising areas.

Georgia has a beautiful cherry wood interior and is the only yacht of her size on the market with a full-beam Master Suite and a sixth stateroom or gym. She sleeps 10 or 12 in five staterooms with en suite bathrooms and accommodates 8 crew.

For an appointment to see Georgia please contact Stuart by phone +1 954 328 6553 or at

One of the most travelled yachts in the world with proven capability, even in the harshest climates, the 126m I 414ft Octopus was delivered by Lurssen in 2003. With naval architecture and exterior styling by Espen Øino, Octopus is built to Ice-class 1A and has two helipads: one forward and one aft with access to a large helicopter garage for two helicopters.

Her hull design includes an integrated dock with lock doors at the stern. It houses a 60-foot submarine capable of carrying ten people and a Hinckley tender. When the vessels are on board, the water is pumped out providing a drydock facility. In addition, Octopus carries seven other tenders including the 13.5m I 44ft custom Hinckley Talaria dive tender, an ROV and an array of water toys.

The interior was designed by Jonathan Quinn Barnett. Octopus has a dedicated Owner’s deck with a private elevator and an observation lounge. Overall, she can house 26 guests in 13 staterooms. Amenities include a large cinema and a recording studio with a purpose-designed floor to damp out low-frequency noise and vibration, a beach club, dive-center with hyperbaric chamber, a pool, gym, and a spa with hammam and sauna.

Octopus is powered by diesel-electric propulsion and can reach a maximum speed of 18 knots. At 14 knots she has a trans-Pacific range of 12,500 nm.

NEW CENTRAL AGENCY - SIRONA III
October 2020

NEW CENTRAL AGENCY - SIRONA III

Stuart is pleased to announce his appointment as central agent for the sale of Sirona III, the 56.40m (185’) custom—built yacht delivered by Oceanfast in 2004.
One of the last yachts designed by the legendary Jon Bannenberg, Sirona III has a dashing profile and streamlined proportions enhanced by her royal blue hull which are as contemporary today as when she was launched.  Arguably the best Oceanfast built, Craig Beale coordinated the design team which included Sam Sorgiovanni who curated the crisp interior styling. The naval architecture was entrusted to Oceanfast’s owning company, the global shipbuilder Austal Ships, known to deliver performance, comfort, economy and reliability.

Built to Lloyds classification and MCA compliant, Sirona III has a steel hull and white composite (FRP) low maintenance superstructure. Although full displacement, her hull is relatively shallow and well suited for cruising the Bahamas. Sirona III is equipped with Caterpillar engines, Caterpillar generators, zero speed stabilizers and has trans-Pacific range at 10 knots. At top speed Sirona III can reach almost 15 knots and cruise comfortably at 12 knots.
Sirona III’s layout is versatile and optimizes interior and exterior space. There are a number of original outside entertaining areas: a great exterior forward lounge area on the bridge deck and a bar with al fresco dining on the sun deck. The sun deck also includes an indoor gym with a steam shower and day head. On the main deck the sliding glass doors of the formal saloon can be opened to create a giant al fresco entertaining area.

Sirona III’s crisp and contemporary interior is decorated in neutral tones with accents of color. Thanks to her large vertical windows, the overall effect is light and airy, with a modern art-deco feel. Sirona III can accommodate 12 guests in a bridge deck owner’s stateroom, four guest suites on the lower deck and a convertible stateroom/salon/TV lounge on the main deck. The four guest suites have extremely versatile bed arrangements such that SIRONA III can sleep up to 16 guests. She carries up to 15 crew.

Built by an experienced yachtsman and maintained in top condition, Sirona has only had two owners and has never been chartered.
Sirona III is asking USD 17,500,000. Currently she is lying in Fort Lauderdale and can be viewed by appointment. Please contact Stuart at +1 954 328 6553 or
Stuart.Larsen@fraseryachts.com . Please note that Sirona III is not offered for sale to US residents while in US waters.

STUART SELLS TURQUOISE YACHTS 75m PROJECT Project NB69
August 2020

STUART SELLS TURQUOISE YACHTS 75m PROJECT Project NB69

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of new 75-metre Turquoise Yachts Project NB69 confirming the ongoing enthusiasm for yachting which has continued throughout the global health crisis.

A sister ship of NB66, NB69 has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure and is designed by A.Vallicelli & C. Yacht Design with naval architecture by Turquoise and interior design by the Dutch designer Sinot.

In mid-July, NB69 was transferred from the Kocaeli facility to the Pendik shipyard for completion of interior installation and outfitting including the top paint coat. She is on schedule for sea trials in 14 months and delivery is contracted for November 2021.

Spanning 6 six decks, of which two are dedicated to technical and crew areas, the originality of NB69’s style plays on harmonious contrasts between soft and rigid elements. The styling of the superstructure and the hull is a combination of simple, sleek lines and a powerful, dynamic look. “A tight line starting in the bow area, that then, at the center of the boat, becomes a curved concave line that gently slopes down towards the aft section. With a profile reminiscent of sporty sailing, the low angle of the transom slope and the long forward overhang, make this 75m yacht appear long, slender, and elegant in support of her generous interior volume”.

At more than 1700 GT and with a 14.2m beam, NB69 can reach 17knots, powered by Caterpillar 3516C engines. Equipped with Naiad zero speed stabilizers, she is built to Lloyd’s class.

Sinot, known for their owner-centered custom designs, has devised some highly creative solutions for the interior including a spectacular pool lounge and spa treatment room.

In addition to a 4m pool on the main deck, the yacht features an unusually large “generation three” full-beam beach club which opens on three sides, with the port and starboard shell doors converting into extended platforms on the sea.
Guest accommodation includes the Owner’s suite on a private deck and 5 guest cabins plus a VIP cabin on the main deck. NB69 carries up to 22 crew in 10 double cabins in addition to the captain’s quarters.

A touch-and-go helicopter pad is located forward on the upper deck and the large tender garages house a 10m limousine tender as well as the 8.5m multi-purpose guest tender, a 5.5m rescue/crew tender and several wave runners along with Nitrox diving capability.

45m (147’) AWATEA SOLD
August 2020

45m (147’) AWATEA SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of Awatea, the 45-metre ocean-going motor yacht delivered by Hakvoort in 2008. Stuart acted for the buyer. Correctly priced and in excellent condition, Awatea (former My Trust) had not reached the market, but was based in Antibes. Awatea is Stuart’s fifth sale in 2020, confirming strong demand and resilient pricing notwithstanding the current travel restrictions.

With a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, Awatea was designed by Cor de Rover with naval architecture by Diana Yacht Design while Felix Buytendijk was responsible for the interior design.
In 2018, the new owner redecorated the interior, lightening the palette without altering the layout. The current interior is modern classic featuring mahogany panels, superbly bevelled raised panel joinery and classic white painted surfaces and beamed deck heads. The prevailing color scheme includes tones of blue, aqua and white.

Built to Lloyds and MCA, Awatea was the first yacht to be built for chartering under the Dutch government rules for Commercial Cruising Vessels (CCV) and has the perfect length and layout for worldwide family cruising.
Larger than normal for a 45m, her layout makes the most of her 499 GT. All five staterooms are really spacious with en-suite bathrooms and the full-beam master suite, accessed via a private study, has 2.30m headroom.  She sleeps 10 guests with the master suite on deck and accommodates nine crew. A tender garage for a 7.6m tender and all her water toys keeps her decks clear for owner and guest relaxation.

Awatea is equipped with an ultra-modern stabilization system and cruises comfortably at 11.3 knots with max speed of 13 knots. Powered by twin 3508 Caterpillar engines she has a range of 4,600 nautical miles at her cruising speed.

BLUE TOO SOLD
July 2020

BLUE TOO SOLD

SStuart is pleased to announce the sale of the sailing yacht Blue Too, his fourth sale in 2020. Notwithstanding the unprecedented global health crisis, interest in yachting remains steady, including interest from younger, first time buyers and also due to low interest rates and a relatively stable stock market.

BLUE TOO is a superb world cruiser designed by Ron Holland globally known for his successful maxi-racers and large, performance-oriented cruising yachts. Built in 1998 by Alloy Yachts in New Zealand she has been maintained in mint condition with two full refits in 2008 and 2016. A Patton survey completed in 2019 concluded that "BLUE TOO is a well-built yacht designed for world cruising. She has been proven over her lifetime with many Transocean passages, both Atlantic and Pacific. The vessel has been maintained very well by her present owner and crew with several major refits and up-graded equipment. She is in first class cruising condition”.

BLUE TOO includes state-of-the-art equipment like in-furling booms, bow and stern thrusters and a hydraulic transom with a fold-down stairway to the bathing platform. With a total sail area of 6,675 sq ft (620 sq m) last season she won the St Barths Bucket in her class with three first place finishes and the largest cumulative margin ever recorded in the Bucket's history.

Her performance under sail is only matched by the superb quality of the Redman Whiteley Dixon interior and layout. A very interesting feature is her two-cockpit design.  The spacious central cockpit offers superb seating, sailing comfort and room for al fresco dining while there is a private owner’s cockpit aft with direct access from the master stateroom.
BLUE TOO can accommodate six guests and all staterooms have entertainment centers and en-suite bathroom facilities, while a further two cabins sleep five crew.
BLUE TOO was asking USD 4,900,000.

MAG III SOLD
July 2020

MAG III SOLD

Stuart is pleased to announce the sale of MAG III, his third sale in 2020 after the 74m Odyssey and the 41m Dreamer.
Without doubt the 45m MAG III was the best-in-class Benetti Vision on the market.  MAG III was delivered in 2009 as Hull # 11 of 19 and is equipped with Zero-speed stabilizers and an elevator from the lower to the upper decks. Built to ABS class by a project manager who had 16 Benetti build projects to his name, she has transatlantic range and, although only used privately, MAG III is MCA compliant and her 10-year class survey was completed at the end of 2019. She was also US duty paid.

In pristine condition, MAG III punches well above her weight. Her elegant interior is beautifully decorated by Bannenberg and Rowell who optimized her functional layout showcasing the impressive airy interior spaces and the large sun deck, with a hot tub and al fresco dining, to their best.
The swim platform is accessed from the main deck aft. The tender garage doors fold down creating a large area on the water and when the toys are out of the garage the area becomes a beach club.

MAG III accommodates 12 guests in five staterooms. The full beam master stateroom on the main deck is very spacious with a private study, an unusual 270-degree panoramic view from the stateroom, his and her baths, generous closets and storage space. The stateroom opens onto a private veranda forward.
At USD 10,750,000 MAG III was more competitively priced than other Visions on the market which did not offer the same amenities, technical standard and levels of maintenance.

SEA FOREVER – EN-ROUTE TO THE US
July 2020

SEA FOREVER – EN-ROUTE TO THE US

Sea Forever is returning to the US and scheduled to reach Savannah (Georgia) at the end of July.  She has cruised from Tahiti under her own steam, just one more chapter in her world-class track record.
Built by the Vancouver-based ABD Aluminum Yachts, one of the best regarded aluminum yacht builders in North America, SEA FOREVER (ex. Polar Bear) was designed to cruise in remote locations where the need for room, range, storage and efficiency is paramount. In fact, Sea Forever has more usable volume than any other 93' yacht on the water. In addition, she has a 7.2m beam and an imposing bow rising one-and-a-half decks above the water. The bow improves fuel efficiency and reduces pitching. On delivery, Ed Fry commented that “She’s built to survive 20-foot waves without shipping water.”

Launched in 2007, for the next ten years Sea Forever only cruised in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska during summer months. The current owners purchased her in 2017 and stepped up the game. In 2018 she navigated the Sea of Cortez to northern Panama before returning to San Diego for an extensive yard period at Marine Group Boat Works. The last 18 months have been spent cruising through the South Pacific with stops in Perlas Islands, Panama; Galapagos; Marquesas, Society Islands and Tuamotus in French Polynesia.
Sea Forever has a proven track record in good and bad weather and is economical and efficient to operate. She has also been rigorously maintained and shows like new.

The interior by David Boudreau is in unstained maple with light fabrics. The overall effect is subtle and airy enhanced by the large windows on all levels ensuring Sea Forever feels larger than her 216 GT.
She can accommodate 8 guests in three staterooms on the Main deck plus the Master suite on the Bridge deck. The master is completely private with large windows on port and starboard and a sizeable personal aft deck.
Sea Forever carries two good size tenders and has an extended beach club with a large lazarette kitted out to store scuba gear.

Sea Forever is asking $6,500,000 and will be viewable by appointment on arrival. Please note Sea Forever is not for sale to US Residents in US Waters. For more information contact Stuart at +1 954 328 6553 or

NEW CENTRAL LISTING: M/Y SKAT
June 2020

NEW CENTRAL LISTING: M/Y SKAT

Stuart is delighted to announce the central listing of SKAT, the 71m I 233’ delivered by Lurssen Werft Bremen in 2002.
SKAT was and remains one of the most remarkable yachts afloat.  And not only for her radical design by Espen Øino: her engineering, construction and systems are as forward thinking and detailed as her styling. Her maintenance program is second to none, managed by her captain who has been onboard since delivery.

Stark and imposing with beautifully clean lines, when she was launched SKAT broke with yacht design conventions. Not being a slave to trends or fashion, she remains as cutting edge today as when she was built.
Optimization of the bulbous bow design produced a 15% fuel savings. Similar optimization of the rudders and stabilizers produced an additional 9% saving.

Skat can accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 staterooms plus 2 more in a child’s cabin and carries up to 20 crew. She has only been used privately.
Offered for sale by her original owner, SKAT is asking Euro 56.500.000. Please note that SKAT is not available for sale to US residents while in US waters.

Built in 1998 by Alloy Yachts in New Zealand she has been maintained in mint condition with two full refits in 2008 and 2016. In 2019 she was the most impressive and consistent performer in the St. Bart’s Bucket winning her class with three first place finishes.

Built to a Ron Holland design the 34m I 112’ luxury performance ketch is traditional but includes state-of-the-art equipment like in-furling booms, bow and stern thrusters and a hydraulic transom with a fold-down stairway to the bathing platform.

Broward Marine and the Denison Family
April 2020

Broward Marine and the Denison Family

This year, History Fort Lauderdale’s annual fundraiser, History Makers, honors the MARINE INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH FLORIDA and special pioneers in boatbuilding FRANK AND GERTRUDE DENISON, recognizing their contribution in establishing our region as the yachting capital of the world.

Stuart was invited to contribute from a broker’s perspective having had a “first hand, front row seats to building with us as well as the time period that all of this occurred, you were able to see FROM YOUR PERSPECTIVE, the influence that this relatively small boat yard/builder impacted others across this industry”.

It was 1984. I had been a yacht broker for 4 years. It was a fledging industry back then. The largest yachts were about 100 feet. I might have sold a couple of yachts in the 50’ region! Too long ago to remember……. But there was an economic boom, of sorts, unlike what we have seen recently, but nevertheless the yachting business was about to “take flight”.

I had met a client a few years before with a 65’ Hatteras that wowed me as to its sheer size. The client wowed me as well. So knowledgeable, so educated, so mechanically inclined and so astute business-wise. He wanted a “bigger yacht”. There simply weren’t any to buy. The dollar was really strong against European currencies.

The good European shipyards (all two of them) were on a roll with American buyers. So, the client, his wife and I went together to visit Feadship in Holland and Abeking and Rasmussen in Germany. We had plans drawn for a “massive” new 120’ yacht.
In the summer of 1984, we met on his Hatteras in Newport, RI to discuss the way forward with a new 120’ Abeking. I was in seventh heaven. What a deal for a 25 year-old kid.  It had to be too good to be true. It was. The next week, as we were about to sign for the new yacht the dollar crashed and the price increased 25%. OUCH.

Being shell shocked, I didn’t quite know how to move forward. And then I had what could have been the most brilliant idea of my now 40-year career in the yacht brokerage business. I picked up the phone (we didn’t have cell phones then) and called Ken Denison. I didn’t know Ken then but had heard whispers that Broward Marine had a possible default on a “big” yacht. Ken confirmed it might be available but he needed to check with his parents. Frank Denison called me, said there were a number of interested people and I had better hurry.

My ever- trusting client came that afternoon in his little Cessna jet, looked at what was to be his new yacht and we made a handshake deal on the spot. You could do that with the Denison’s. The client loved the idea of building in America, I loved the idea of building a yacht two miles from my office and home and so then and there, LADY COLUMBO was born.

She was the largest aluminum yacht to be built in the USA, and I felt so proud to be a part of it. The 9 months it took to finish her were not easy but the Denison family, and especially Ken and I forged a trusting relationship that Ken and I enjoy 35 years later. Mike Busacca was in charge of the detailed carpentry in LADY COLUMBO; Mike and I work together still, in very different roles, but Broward Marine and the LADY COLUMBO put us all on the map. Most importantly, it was such a successful project for the clients they later moved on to bigger yachts, buying and cruising the world on a 125’ Feadship (he finally got his Feadship) and then building a 184’ Feadship and then to cruising the world on a 160’ sailing yacht that they twice rounded Cape Horn on, and still own today.

This is my story but there are countless others that must attribute their success to that little Ft Lauderdale shipyard that launched the yachting business in America for so many lucky people.

WHAT IS FORCE MAJEURE AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT A SALES AGREEMENT
March 2020

WHAT IS FORCE MAJEURE AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT A SALES AGREEMENT

During this time of uncertainty, the lawyers at Robert Allen Law are on-call to advise you on what you need to know now regarding all of your yacht-related legal questions. To that end, we have prepared guidance on how the industry’s standard contracts – for charters, purchases and sales – deal with unforeseen circumstances such as the Coronavirus.

Prior to the Coronavirus pandemic, many brokers, dealers, manufacturers, buyers, sellers, owners and charterers had transactions well underway and many are now uncertain as to what will happen to those deals as important dates inch closer and government restrictions grow more severe. Your contract’s force majeure clause is the key provision to understanding how risk is allocated due to a delay or cancellation caused by the Coronavirus.

What is Force Majeure?
Force majeure is a Latin term used within the law that means an unforeseeable circumstance that prevents a party from fulfilling their obligations under a contract. Not all force majeure clauses are created equally, however, and the effect of such a clause is entirely dependent on the language used in your particular agreement. Some force majeure clauses may allow for a temporary suspension of performance, while others may allow for immediate termination of the agreement, or both. It is important that you carefully read the force majeure clause in your contract to determine your rights and responsibilities under the agreement.

When reviewing any force majeure clause, it is important to note that not every clause will cover events such as the Coronavirus. This may be due to the approach that some drafters take or if the agreement was not reviewed by a capable attorney before execution. Although the words “Coronavirus” will almost certainly not appear in your agreement as a defined force majeure event, there should be language broad enough to encompass health pandemics...

SCOUT II BACK ON THE MARKET
March 2020

SCOUT II BACK ON THE MARKET

Known for excellent sea-keeping, SCOUT II is back on the market. She is available for inspection in Fort Lauderdale until the end of March. She leaves for the Mediterranean in April where she will spend this coming summer.

Purpose-built for exploration by the British shipyard Brooke Marine in 1993, the original owner required a robust, world cruising yacht. While the yard looked to their commercial tug platforms to meet the tough seakeeping specification, the owner hired Terry Disdale for the external styling and interior decoration to ensure the project was built to true yachting standards.

Extended from 34m/111’ to 40m/130’ in 2018, she is beamy and stable, with excellent interior volume and deck spaces. She is powered by 3408TA Caterpillar engines and all key equipment and machinery has either been replaced or overhauled in the last two years. Her mast has been redesigned, the stern provides great access to the water and the remodeled bow with increased height and flair makes for dryer decks and larger tenders forward.

The interior is classic but light, a masterpiece of Disdale design. The upper deck features a huge sky lounge and office with outside dining and seating on the large sky lounge deck.  SCOUT II can sleep 9 guests in four staterooms on the lower deck and carries 9 crew. Asking $9,900,000 SCOUT II represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a serious and well proven explorer yacht.

NEW CENTRAL LISTING: M/Y SEA FOREVER
January 2020

NEW CENTRAL LISTING: M/Y SEA FOREVER

Stuart is pleased to announce the Central Listing of Sea Forever, the 28m all-aluminum custom Exploration Yacht built by the Vancouver-based ABD Aluminum Yachts and delivered in 2007. ABD is known for its meticulously built, stout expedition yachts.
Built to cruise in remote locations where supplies are not always accessible, the need for
room, range, storage and efficiency influenced the yacht’s design and build.

Sea Forever has a 7.2m beam and an imposing bow, rising one-and-a-half decks above the water. Designer Ed Fry incorporated the high, bulbous bow to improve fuel efficiency and reduce pitching. He commented that “She’s built to survive 20-foot waves without shipping water.”

Sea Forever leaves the smallest environmental footprint possible and equipment includes an industrial waste compacter, an aerobic biological sewage treatment system and fuel-efficient propulsion. The two Lugger 500-hp engines by Northern Lights enable Sea Forever to reach a maximum speed of 12 knots, and have nearly a 5,000 mile range at 10 knots. All essential electronics are duplicated on the delightfully large flybridge.

The interior by David Boudreau is finished in soft-hued, unstained maple and flat walls display the wood’s flame-like structure. The overall effect is subtle and airy enhanced by the large windows on all levels.
Sea Forever can accommodate 8 guests in three staterooms on the Main deck in addition to the Master suite on the Bridge deck. The master is completely private and features sizeable windows on port and starboard and a sizeable personal aft deck. Sea Forever consistently feels larger than her 216 GT.

PRICE REDUCTION ON MAG III, BENETTI 45m VISION

Designed by Stefano Righini and delivered in 2009, MAG III is the most specialized Benetti Vision on the market.
Although recognized as a highly successful series in the charter market, MAG III has never chartered and shows accordingly. She offers the perfect layout, inside and out. She can sleep up to 12 guests in 5 staterooms including a raised master suite with private study, his and her bathrooms and a secluded forward-looking terrace. MAG III has an exceptionally large and multipurpose sun-deck, a tender garage, is MCA compliant and has transatlantic range.

Unlike many of the other Benetti Vision yachts currently for sale, MAG III is equipped with the all-important zero-speed stabilizers at anchor and has an elevator serving the lower to the upper deck.
Her interior was designed by the world famous Bannenberg and Rowell and was entirely refurbished including refinished woodwork and new lighting and furnishings by the present owner in 2015 with new carpets laid in 2019.

CLOSING 2019 WITH A BANG: HERE COMES THE SUN SOLD

Exciting end-of-year news: Here Comes the Sun, the largest AMELS ever built, has been sold in an in-house Fraser deal with Stuart representing the Buyer. This is Stuart’s sixth deal in 2019, the second largest by LOA after the 85m LURSSEN Areti.

Built by AMELS as “The Head of the family”, Here Comes the Sun is a “celebration of the luxury experience at the highest level – a sublime combination of comfort, style and uncompromising design”.
The 83-metre superyacht is not only the largest AMELS yacht built to date but also the first AMELS 272 from the yard’s successful Limited Editions range. And the records don’t stop there. The design collaboration between AMELS, the exterior designer Tim Heywood, and the interior designer Andrew Winch goes back 30 years to the Jon Bannenberg days.

Built by experienced owners, the build was completed in only 2.5 years and delivered in 2017. At 2827 GT and counting six decks, Here Comes the Sun has more than 1,400 square metres (15,069 sq ft) of interior. The levels of finish, the lack of noise and the lack of vibration is remarkable throughout.

$3.2 M PRICE REDUCTION ON S/Y GEORGIA

Now asking $ 9,750,000 the 49m I 159' Georgia was the world’s largest sloop at the time of her launch in 2000. With her 59m carbon mast and eye-catching burgundy-red hull, she established herself as the trailblazer for a new generation of sailing yachts.

Built by Alloy in New Zealand with naval architecture by Sudio Scanu srl and Butch Design and exterior styling and interior design by Glade Johnson Design, Georgia was conceived as the ultimate family world cruiser. Designed for ease of sailing with a minimal crew, safety and cohesive design was paramount. Georgia has a low profile with unusually large windows which allow guests to look down onto the water. The sailing equipment is hidden below deck, a very unusual feature on a sailing yacht, and there is ample sailing gear storage in belowdeck 50 gallon storage drums. Her centreboard draft allows access to shoal cruising areas. Proven beyond doubt, since 2009 she has covered almost 115,000nm, circumnavigated the globe and won the 2018 St Barth’s Bucket!

Georgia has a beautiful cherry wood interior and is the only yacht of her size on the market with a full-beam Master Suite and a sixth stateroom or gym. She sleeps 10 or 12 in five staterooms with en-suite bathrooms and accommodates 8 crew.
When she was launched, Georgia won the Showboats award as the most innovative sailing yacht as well as the best sailing yacht over 38 meters.

Octopus video online I A whole new perspective

The 126m Octopus is a feat of imagination and engineering. Still as ground-breaking today as when she was delivered in 2003, there is simply no other comparable yacht in the global fleet. She was built for long-range exploration and research and is uniquely fit for purpose.

Being equipped with two heli-pads and an aft hangar which houses two large helicopters and the refuelling facilities, she functions as a proper heliport during navigation.

The scope of sea operations is equally articulated. Octopus carries an array of tenders including a Hinckley chase boat, a limousine capable of 30kns, two 9m inflatables plus a large number of smaller craft. The Hinckley is stored in the integrated dock together with a 10-person submersible. Unmanned underwater operations are carried out by the ROV which can operate at depths of 3000m, stream video to the ROV control room on board and collect marine samples with a robotic arm. All online, click on the icon below.

Her exterior styling and naval architecture is by Espen Oino while the interiors are designed by the Seattle-based Jonathan Quinn Barnett who looked to Mid-century luxury ocean liners and Art Deco design for inspiration.
Videography by Franck Spire.

Octopus will be spending the winter in the Mediterranean. For an appointment, contact Stuart Larsen at stuart.larsen@fraseryachts.com or +1 954 328 6553. Please note that Octopus is not offered for sale to US residents while in US waters.

NEW CENTRAL LISTING - M/Y DRAGON
September 2019

NEW CENTRAL LISTING - M/Y DRAGON

Stuart is pleased to announce the Central Agency listing of Dragon, the new 80m superyacht built by Palumbo at its Ancona facility under the Columbus Yachts brand and delivered in May 2019.

The brief for the naval architect Hydro Tec Studio specified “a classic all-white boat with a modern design and lots of windows.” Thanks to their 50 year plus experience in commercial shipbuilding, Palumbo was able to reduce the build time and, after constructing the hull in Naples, barged it to their newly acquired superyacht yard in Ancona where it was completed in 20 months. Time-saving methods included modular crew quarters, which were prefabricated and fitted before the hull left Naples.

At 79.5m and 2,210GT, owner and guest accommodations are split over 5 decks, all of which are served by an elevator, with the exception of the sun-deck. The sundeck is undoubtably one of Dragon’s highlights. It features a 7-metre, mosaic-lined pool and shaded Jacuzzi fitted into the funnel with a water blade cascade. A helicopter landing platform for an Agusta 109 or similar is forward on the main deck.
Outside living plays an important role in the design. In addition to outside seating and dining areas forward and aft, the 200 m2 beach club, enhanced by a backlit brilliant blue agate wall, includes a bar, a sauna a Turkish bath, and several relaxation and sunbathing areas.

The sophisticated interior designed with a Provencal twist by Francesco Guida is welcoming and easy on the eye. Dragon has accommodation for 14 guests in 7 cabins and the décor features brushed oak joinery combined with soft bronze or gold accents. The extensive master suite on the Upper Deck forward, has 180° views and includes a private sauna. A full-beam VIP suite is on the main deck, with four other guest suites and there is an extra guest or staff cabin on the lower deck.
The main salon and dining room feature six panoramic glass windows. The largest of these 40mm-thick panes cover an area of 10 sqm and are supported by the superstructure without additional columns or pillars.

Dragon is powered by twin MTU main engines and has a top speed of 17 knots and a range of 6,200 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots. The state-of-the-art wheelhouse was designed in collaboration with TEAM Italia, the international leader in integrated navigation systems.
A 9.5m custom limo tender built by Palumbo and a 7m tender are housed in a garage amidships on the starboard side while the crew tender and water toys are stored in side-opening compartments under the forward main deck.

Dragon will be on display during the Monaco Yacht Show from the 25 to 28 September on Quai Etats Unis, slip E14.

NEW CENTRAL LISTING - SCOUT II
July 2019

NEW CENTRAL LISTING - SCOUT II

The 40m (130’) SCOUT II is in a class of her own.
Delivered in 1993 by the historic British shipyard Brooke Yachts, and built to a tough specification, SCOUT is one of the first purpose-built exploration yachts, pre-dating the current trend by over 25 years.

Impeccably maintained by her three owners (all keen and experienced yachtsmen) SCOUT II has always been privately used and has a proven track record as a successful global cruiser. With a massive beam of 9.2m (just over 30ft) she is remarkably stable and seaworthy and has a 4.000 nm range.

During the last three years the current owner undertook an extensive, multi-million dollar upgrade and refit at two US shipyards. The projects included a 5m extension aft and a 1m extension forward and the installation of a new mast. The bow was reshaped, all key machinery and systems were replaced or remanufactured, including zero speed stabilizers, new generators and air conditioning. All work was detailed and photographed throughout and approved by Lloyds. At 397 Gross Tons, SCOUT II is unrivalled in her class in terms of volume, performance, deck space and versatility.

While her new profile and sleek new paint job make a nod to yachting glamour, SCOUT II’s exterior is still a masterpiece of rugged strength and power. The interior however, is 100% yacht. Designed by Terence Disdale, SCOUT II offers a high degree of privacy with crew and guest areas cleverly separated. The understated elegant interior is finished in limed teak, blues and white, in true yacht style.

The Owner’s study is on the upper deck and offers a 180-degree view forward over the wheelhouse, with a sky lounge aft. There are essentially two Owner’s staterooms on the lower deck, for reduced motion, both with showers and a tub. Overall SCOUT can accommodate nine guests in four ensuite staterooms and can carry up to 9 crew members.

The asking price is USD $12,900,000. Currently lying in Maine, she can be seen by appointment. Please note that SCOUT II is not offered for sale to US residents while in US waters. Contact Stuart for more information at +1 954 328 6553

IMPORTATION OF US BUILT TENDERS
May 2019

IMPORTATION OF US BUILT TENDERS

A tender used independently of the mothership or towed on its own bottom requires its own registration. Tenders solely transporting guests between the mothership and the shore can be registered under the same registration as the mothership and are called “tender to”.

Like US built yachts, US built tenders are subject to 25% import tariffs when entering the EU. Depending on the registration, they can be imported under different customs schemes.

To summarize, a “tender to” follows the same rules as the mothership which, if commercial and imported into the EU before 22 June 2018, can be re-imported under the Return Good Relief (RGR) scheme and operate as before.

If privately registered, a yacht can be imported under Temporary Admission (TA). In this case, once in EU waters, no EU guests may use the yacht or tender/s if the owner isn’t onboard.
A private yacht under TA may also charter, if it engages in the YET scheme. However, no EU residents may use the vessel or tender during the charter.

Things are slightly different for US built tenders with their own registration. These can be imported under the RGR scheme, if they qualify, or TA if they do not.

So what happens if the mothership qualifies for the RGR scheme and the tender doesn’t? The tender can be imported under TA. This entails an oral declaration (form Annex 71-01) which must also mention its association to the mothership.

As well as, the oral declaration, the mothership’s charter contract must state:
  • the tender's registration number and use;
  • that the tender is attached exclusively to the mothership;
  • that the tender is used for "shuttle operations", between the mothership and embarkation/ disembarkation dock;
  • that the tender is used only for short journeys which the mothership cannot undertake (navigation in shallow waters, for instance).

In the last case, EU residents might be allowed to use the tender during the charter under certain conditions. However, we are waiting to see how Customs defines ‘user’ before clarifying further.
Non-EU residents can use tenders without any restrictions, even without a charter contract in place since it is imported under TA.

Please note that the above is for the purpose of information only and does not  constitute legal advice.

PLANET NINE FEATURES IN \
May 2019

PLANET NINE FEATURES IN "THE EXTRAVAGANT"

Back in the Mediterranean after a five-month cruise to Antarctica Planet Nine has redefined luxury exploration cruising. Launched in May 2018, Planet Nine anticipated the current fascination with off-the beaten-track, long distance cruising. Built for extreme conditions, her imposing profile by Tim Heywood is reminiscent of a military vessel. The interior layout is functional but as elegant as the exterior is rugged.
With safety and performance as well as comfort in mind, the hull and superstructure were built by the commercial shipyard Cantieri San Marco in La Spezia while The Italian Sea Group completed the build to luxury yacht standards.

Exploration is in Planet Nine’s DNA. She is Lloyd’s Register Ice Class 1D and can deal with sea ice up to 15 centimetres. She is equipped with dynamic positioning and zero speed stabilizers for comfort at anchor. Her commercially approved helideck, with an enclosed, below-deck hangar and refuelling facility, is accessed by a lifting platform for an eight-ton helicopter. The hangar allows Planet Nine to handle two aircraft at the same time.

The interior was designed by Tino Zervudachi (Mlinaric, Henry and Zervudachi) known for his use of colour and eclectic aesthetic. The yacht is elegant with stylistic flair yet has a cosy quality and does not feel over-designed. The interior and furniture were custom built by German luxury outfitter Fitz Interiors.
The Upper Deck houses the main indoor living area including a stunning Inside-Outside Salon, an Observation Lounge forward and a super-surround cinema with lounge beds. Business requirements have not been overlooked. A large meeting room/library with adjoining lounge is located on the Main Deck and there is a smaller private study on the Upper Deck.
Guest accommodations are spacious and sleep up to sixteen in eight staterooms including the full-beam Owner’s suite, a VIP on the Main Deck and another VIP with a private outside area on the Bridge Deck. An elevator serves all decks.

The Sundeck with Jacuzzi provides ample space for outside-living and “al fresco” dining. The teak panelled Beach Club is designed for use in hot and cold climates. The spa has a foldable bulwark which, when open, becomes a large sunbathing and lounging area on the sea. The spa is equipped with fitness equipment, a Hamman and a sauna.
Tenders include two high-performance 10m Rupert RIB tenders, one open and one limousine, a 6m Rupert crew boat and a rescue tender as well as personal water craft and an array of other water toys.

Most owners only use their yachts in summer or warm-water winters. Planet Nine is one of the very few yachts that has been designed for summer and colder winter long-range cruising”, says Stuart Larsen, “She is ahead of the curve and exemplifies clients’ growing appetites for new destinations and adventure cruising”.

Are you in the market for a large, fast yacht with shallow draft under 500GT? And Mangusta doesn’t fit the bill? The 50m Framura 3 is an exceptional opportunity outclassing all yachts in her category in terms of performance, design, maintenance and pedigree.

Build by Codecasa Shipyards in 2013, Framura 3 has had one owner since delivery. Although she has only been used privately in the Mediterranean, the ABS classed Framura 3 is fully compliant with the Malta commercial yacht code for short range navigation.

With hull and superstructure in aluminium, Framura 3 has top speed of 28 knots and a range of 1,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 18 knots. She is powered by 3 MTU 16V 2000 M94 engines, 2600 HP each, coupled with two water jets and a Kamewa booster. For additional comfort at anchor, Framura 3 is equipped with gyroscopic zero speed stabilizers by Ship Dynamics.

The largest of the Sport series, Framura 3 is custom built with aggressive yet streamlined exterior lines and spacious, graceful interior by Anna Maria and Franco Della Role. The interior decor is light, bright and airy. Light oak wood complements the dark wengé floors and the neutral tones of the fabrics are enhanced up by isolated touches of bright colour.

The layout is functional across three decks. There are five staterooms on the Lower Deck including a full-beam VIP. The full-beam Master Suite is forward on the Main Deck and includes a separate private study, his and her bathrooms, dressing room and  a gym with a foldable bulwark which opens up to become a private balcony over the sea. The gym can be accessed directly from the Master Stateroom or the main deck lobby.

Aft there is a large salon with plenty of natural light and comfortable seating. The dining area is located on the Bridge Deck which also has al-fresco dining for 12, well protected from the wind. The dining deck has a large pantry and dumb water to ensure a high standard of service.  Forward there is another sunbathing area which includes observation seating and two large sun pads and extensive storage under.

Framura 3 can accommodate nine crew in four double cabins plus the captain’s quarters on the Lower Deck. An 8m tender is housed in a garage with automatic door for easy launching with a purpose-built crane.
The Beach Club is generous for a high-performance yacht and access to the water is safe and easy.

Established in 1825, Codecasa Shipyard is still owned and managed by the original family. Over the years, the yard has acquired a well-deserved reputation for high-quality, technological innovation, reliability, crisp design and comfort at sea. As the flagship of Codecasa’s proven Sports range, Framura 3 perfectly showcases the yard’s capabilities.

SYCARA V
February 2019

SYCARA V

"Right from the beginning the Owner had very clear and detailed views on how his yacht should look, and what she should be able to do. But this time he wanted something altogether different – a powerful and modern yacht design that retained an elegant appearance".

Nobiskrug rose to the challenge and exceeded, rather than fulfilled, the brief. Sycara V is a custom full displacement yacht with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure which includes fiberglass die-cast parts - a Nobiskrug specialty. The construction is sturdy and includes a sophisticated insulation system that ensures the yacht is quiet and vibration free.

ARETI – MY Home
February 2019

ARETI – MY Home

Given the huge advantage of being able to accommodate more than 12 guests while cruising, Areti was built to PYC standards. Created in 2010, the Passenger Yacht Code (PYC) is a classification alternative to Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). PYC allows yachts of any length to carry up to 36 guests on international voyages without having to give up the look and feel of a luxury yacht. Areti can carry up to 18 guests and is the only 85m Lurssen built to PYC standards on the market today.

PYC standards require designers to think about the code from the earliest stages of design and engineering. For instance, guest accommodations and the engine room have to be flame retardant and allow for watertight compartments and escape routes. Winch Design rose to the challenge magnificently. Most of the wood in Areti’s interior is  veneer over aluminium. Thanks to superb design and craftsmanship, it is impossible to tell the difference from solid wood. Notwithstanding compliance with regulatory and safety considerations, Areti is every inch a luxury superyacht.
Areti accommodates 18 guests in nine staterooms. The owners’ deck, below the bridge deck, includes the owners’ suite and two additional staterooms for children, family members or VIP guests.

The master suite forward has a 180-degree unimpeded view. A private spa pool, sun bed and breakfast table for an intimate morning coffee are just forward of the suite. Two more convertible double / twin guest staterooms are on the main deck, with another four on the lower deck. Areti carries up to 28 crew onboard in 14 cabins to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience. Click the link and come on board!

Areti is available for inspection in Palm Beach and is expected to attend the Palm Beach International Boat Show in March. Please note that she is not for sale to US residents while in US Waters.

SALES STATISTICS 2015 - 2018
February 2019

SALES STATISTICS 2015 - 2018

Heading into 2019, yacht sales continue to be buoyant notwithstanding a fluid economic environment. Following the GFC, the past 10 years have seen increased sales globally; as of 2013, new markets have provided new opportunities while traditional markets have ratcheted up activity especially in the US.

Below is a snapshot of Stuart’s activity since 2015, highlighting key performance indicators. Stuart has sold 29 yachts in the past 4 years; 28 brokerage deals and one new construction project. The overall value of the sales, amounted to well over half a billion dollars and the yacht’s cumulative LOAs to almost 1,500 meters.

Stuart has averaged 7 sales every year for the past 4 years reflecting both the strength of his main market, the US, and his experience. The 2018 Superyacht Annual Brokerage Report states industry averages to be 40m for LOA and USD 10 million for asking price. Stuart’s average LOA for sold yachts is 49m while the average asking price is USD 25 million. Simply said, Stuarts sales average 20% higher in LOA and 60% more in value to the average market.

In addition to robust sales, Stuart has performed consistently across all market segments. The largest yacht Stuart represented was 107m (351ft) and the smallest was 15m (49ft). The number of exploration yachts coming on the market is increasing. Pedigree, classic displacement yachts will always find a new owner. Correct pricing and good maintenance, along with the correct broker are essential ingredients for a speedy and smooth sale.

Speed of sale is a key indicator for sellers. The average sales time of central listing represented by Stuart is 8 months. His listings sell, they do not languish on the market with continuing carry costs.

Stuart has worked with Fraser for the past 38 years. The Superyacht Report ranked Fraser first for the number of yachts sold over the past five years (212).  With 29 sales in the past 4 years, Stuart’s contribution amounts to 18% of Fraser’s brokerage sector’s market capitalization.
With the first sale of 2019 completed and 12 central listings on offer, (average and overall LOA of respectively 48m and 577m and average asking price and cumulative asking price of USD 37 million and just under half a billion dollars), Stuart’s has set the stage for another year of solid performance.

ARETI - MY GAME
February 2019

ARETI - MY GAME

Yachts are typically designed with a specific mission in mind. Some are built for sport and others for relaxation. Areti is in a class of her own by combining performance with versatility, and practicality with elegance.

Andrew Winch worked closely with Lürssen to create a vessel that would excel technically and in terms of performance but was also sporty yet elegant to suit the owner’s active lifestyle. When it came to construction, PYC compliance brought with it a more robust approach including more staterooms, and was deemed most appropriate proving that luxury and regulation need not be at odds.

The layout of the yacht has been extremely well considered.  The deck spaces  flow together seamlessly, whether the yacht is being used for entertaining, business, games and fun or sports. The forward helipad can be used as a large open-air sports or entertainment area. The sun deck becomes an inside-outside gym. The Bicycle Room and the Spa are adjacent to the teak lounge-like Beach Club which is equipped with a bar. Guests arriving via tender can walk directly into it. The Beach Club opens out onto a generous bathing platform with fixed lounging areas either side. Access to the water is easy thanks to a hydraulic staircase which is partly submerged when open. The beach club is equipped with a fresh water shower as well as inside facilities.

Areti was designed to carry a large number of tenders and toys. The spaces and systems for managing them are on the Main Deck forward. Two garages are located under the heli pad and contain two 9-metre tenders by Yachtwerft Meyer, one is open and the other is a limousine tender.  A Pascoe Solas rescue tender, a Zodiac Solas rescue tender and two Sea-Doo jet skis round out the tender complement in the garages.

There is also a large assortment of smaller water toys and scuba equipment to enhance the enjoyment of life at sea while the yacht is at anchor. It's all about performance! Click on the link if you want to see Areti in fun mode!

Hakvoort Shipyard launches 63m flagship superyacht SCOUT
December 2018

Hakvoort Shipyard launches 63m flagship superyacht SCOUT

Hakvoort Shipyard is pleased to announce the successful launch of its 63.72-metre motor yacht YN249. Known as Project Brio during the build, the highly-anticipated project will cruise as SCOUT upon delivery to her experienced owners in Spring 2019.

Measuring 63.72-metres with a beam of 11.6 metres and a draft of 3.25 metres, SCOUT emerged from the Hakvoort shed in Monnickendam in North Holland on 1st December before being towed to Amsterdam for final completion. Amongst the works that will be completed in the Dutch capital is the installation of her mast, crow’s nest, radars, stabilizers and propellers.

Though construction of YN249 originally started under a different name, a change of ownership early on in the build process saw a complete change in direction for the steel and aluminum explorer yacht.  Hakvoort can now reveal that SCOUT features both interior and exterior design by Jonny Horsfield and his talented team at H2 Yacht Design, who worked closely with the owner to ensure the realization of a Dutch-quality new-build project that perfectly fits her owner’s taste and requirements. Diana Yacht Design is responsible for her naval architecture.

Speaking of some of the standout features on board, Jonny Horsfield says: “SCOUT has been an exciting project for the H2 Yacht Design and Hakvoort teams. The owner’s brief called for a rugged explorer style yacht intended to look like a conversion from a commercial vessel. We gave her crisp, distinctive lines and integrated forward sloping windows. We placed the tenders on the bow, leaving them exposed to add to the utilitarian aesthetic.

“There is a helideck and a forward observation lounge in addition to an expansive sun deck,” Horsfield continues. “It allows unobstructed views fore and aft which will be one of the focal points of living onboard. The whole design process was centered around a romantic idea of original ocean exploration and SCOUT’s design - inside and out - really reflects that. She’s a fantastically unique vessel.”

Powered by twin CATERPILLAR 3512C diesel engines, SCOUT is designed to cruise at 12.5 knots and will be able to reach a top speed of 14.8 knots. Combined with easy technical accessibility and minimum maintenance requirements, an autonomous range of 4,800 nm at 12 knots ensures that she will live up to her ocean-going credentials. Her Lloyds ice classed hull adds to her serious exploration attributes as a go anywhere world cruising yacht.

On board, she accommodates eight guests across four generous staterooms on the main deck, in addition to an impressive owner’s suite that is located on the dedicated owner’s deck above.  The lower deck features the crew accommodations consisting two staff cabins and nine crew cabins. Her captain's cabin is situated on the bridge deck.

Hakvoort Shipyard was introduced to the owners by Stuart Larsen and Josh Gulbranson of FRASER YACHTS who also organized the owners project team.

The successful launch of SCOUT marks a significant milestone for Hakvoort Shipyard. SCOUT will be the largest vessel in Hakvoort’s fleet upon delivery in a few months’ time, taking the title from the 61-metre motor yacht JUST J’S delivered in 2016.

Further details regarding YN249’s interior design will be revealed at a later date.

PLANET NINE @ YACHTS by NEPTUNE
October 2018

PLANET NINE @ YACHTS by NEPTUNE

For the original article in French, pls check out the link.

The owner of Planet Nine had toyed with the idea of building a global exploration yacht for over ten years. A knowledgeable yachtsman, he anticipated the current interest in adventure and off-the beaten track cruising well ahead of the market. Launched in May 2018, Planet Nine has appeared just at the right time and with inimitable style.

Indeed, to call her an exploration yacht is slightly misleading. Planet Nine isn’t a conversion or a work-boat. Her streamlined profile, from the pen of the talented Tim Heywood, is reminiscent of a beefy military vessel with the same air of capability, solidity and power.

The owner, who was very much involved in the design and construction, focused as much on long-term voyages in extreme conditions as on traditional summer cruising. Serious, go-anywhere sea keeping characteristics were essential.  Planet Nine can deal with sea ice up to 15 centimetres thick thanks to her thick-plated and densely ribbed hull.  The hull and superstructure were built by the commercial shipyard Cantieri San Marco in La Spezia. She was then towed down the coast to The Italian Sea Group’s yard in Marina di Carrara for completion to luxury yacht standards. Planet Nine is the largest yacht the yard has built. “The result is excellent,” says The Italian Sea Group’s vice-president Giuseppe Taranto: “the specification was very tough and the client demanding but we are confident Planet Nine will be a benchmark for future projects”.

Planet Nine took over 30 months to finish and incorporates some very unique features. Ice classed 1D by Lloyd’s, her seawater intakes are protected from ice and low temperatures. She is equipped with dynamic positioning, essential for global cruising in sensitive areas, and zero speed stabilizers for comfort at anchor.
She has a commercially approved helideck designed with a lifting platform and an enclosed below-deck hangar suitable for an Augusta Grand or similarly dimensioned helicopter up to 8 tons in weight. The heli hangar includes a refuelling facility with storage for 9000 liters of fuel.
This means Planet Nine can handle two aircraft at the same time. One on deck and another stowed in the hangar which enables the yacht to operate a heliport and handle incoming flights even when the owner is on board.
“She is unusually versatile and can handle even the most complex logistic operations,” says Stuart Larsen from Fraser Yachts who represents Planet Nine for sale. “The layout has been well-thought out and is functional both in hot and cold weather conditions”.
The interior layout is as purposeful as the exterior. Although the superstructure is relatively small relative to her 2100 gross tons and 13m beam, the layout makes use of every inch of space.

Five of the eight guest staterooms are located on the Lower Deck, under the helideck. The engine room and the technical areas have been moved below the waterline to the what is usually known as the Tank Deck. Noise levels have also benefited from this arrangement.
The interior was designed by Tino Zervudachi of the London-based studio Mlinaric, Henry and Zervudachi. The design and decoration are as much a response to the context as to the way the owner wishes to live life on board. Particular emphasis was placed on the use of colour and comfort. The yacht is elegant with stylistic flair yet has a cosy quality and does not feel over-designed.

Since she was built for extreme, long-distance cruising – she can cruise for 6,000 miles at 14 knots and a staggering 10,000 miles at 10 knots – business requirements have not been overlooked. A large meeting room/library with adjoining lounge is located on the Main Deck and there is a smaller private study on the Upper Deck.
The Upper Deck houses the main indoor living area. There is a stunning Inside-Outside salon, an Observation Lounge forward and a super-surround cinema with lounge beds.

Guest accommodation is spacious (sleeping 16 max) and well lit. In addition to the five guest staterooms on the Lower Deck with direct access to the Beach Club, two staterooms are located on the Main Deck, the full-beam Owner’s suite and a VIP, while another VIP, with a private outside area, is on the Bridge Deck. An elevator serves all decks from the Lower to the Sun Deck. There is also a dedicated crew elevator. Planet Nine can carry 20 crew.

The International University of Monaco Yachting Track 2018
February 2018

The International University of Monaco Yachting Track 2018

Yachting is a difficult industry to break into without experience. Being a niche industry it has been overlooked by mainstream academia. While training for jobs at sea is available, there is a scarcity of professional training for jobs on-land.
The Monaco based International University, IUM, is set to change this with the support of the Cluster Yachting Monaco. For the second year running, as part of the MSc Luxury Management Program the university organized a yachting familiarization course. Students wishing to gain further insight can sign up to the elective course in the second Semester.
While not career specific to a particular area of business, the program explores key areas from charter and sales, to fiscal, regulatory and contractual issues and client management.

The program is built around a new construction project with specific client requirements in mind. Each module explores a key link in the new construction “value chain” as well as the players, the knowledge and skills required. The students are tasked with presenting a report highlighting the milestones and criticalities in the new construction process including criteria for selecting a broker, a yard, registration, and the contractual, legal and fiscal issues integral to yacht ownership.

Stuart Larsen discussed the role of a broker in a new construction process starting from the initial concept and budget, to the delivery and warranty works. His presentation highlighted the key steps and critical issues that are part of the process and, bearing on his extensive experience, how he handled them during past projects.
